Getting Rid of Wasps & Hornets Without Chemicals.

I’ll admit that this is not my idea; there is already a product on the market that does all this.

It’s called the Waspinator and you can search online if you want to buy one.

I’m too cheap to pay for it.

Apparently, Wasps and Hornets (of the family Hymenoptera) are very territorial, they will not come into an area or they will leave an area if they think that there are other Wasps or Hornets there.

In this post I’m going to show you how to do this quickly and cheaply.

Here’s what you’ll need: a roll of landscape fabric (the kind you use to keep weeds down in your flower bed), an empty 1 gallon jug (milk, windshield washer fluid, vinegar, etc.), and two cable ties and maybe some string for hanging it.

The following pictures are pretty self-explanatory, but seeing as how I’m a belt and suspenders kind of guy, I’ll add captions anyway.

Unroll about 3 feet of the landscape fabric (enough to roll the jug in about two layers of fabric).

Remove the lid from the jug, I improved the "design" after these pics were taken.

Roll the jug in the landscape fabric…

Gather the fabric up at the top and bottom of the jug.

Use a cable tie to secure the fabric at the bottom, cut off the excess fabric and stuff it up into the opening of the jug. This will look eerily like an actual wasp nest opening.

Secure the fabric at the top of the jug.

For hanging, you can secure a piece of string underneath the cable tie (like the picture shows) or make a loop of the excess fabric on the top and secure the loop with the top cable tie.

These should be hung in conspicuous places where you don't want the Wasps & Hornets.

I've used these in several different houses now and while it may take a week or two if you already have Wasps or Hornets, they were very effective.

We had a nest along our back sidewalk of yellow jackets and they were gone about 2 weeks after we hung one of these about 20' away.

Interesting post. My question is:
Why do they scare wasps away?
I've been using a light trap that lures them in with the nice shiny lights and then zaps them to oblivion. It's somewhat effective but uses no chemicals.

"The Waspinator is a fake wasps nest. Wasps are very territorial and will aggressively defend their nest against wasps from another colony. When a foraging wasp sees another wasps nest it will rapidly leave the area for fear of being attacked by the nest’s defenders. Wasps have a very long range of vision and when they see a Waspinator they think it’s an enemy wasps nest and quickly leave the area for somewhere safer, leaving the area around the Waspinator completely free of wasps. Waspinator is a wasp repellent it does not harm, trap or kill wasps, it will simply get rid of wasps."

"A scarecrow but for wasps"

Pretty much yeah.

i like the sound of that , will give it a try , as we have two nests near our garden

Well if it works I'll give it a try!!

It's worked more than once and it's damned near free to try.

Hell yeah!!!
