I really agree with what you say about being organized. I have both managed volunteers and volunteered myself. Every volunteer knows when they're being shafted around and not learning anything or doing anything productive and I feel this really leads to people feeling undervalued on both sides. Having plan of where you are now and what you want to achieve both short and long term also helps you to understand where volunteers fit. But that's down to the manager! Thanks for this!
