in #homesteading7 years ago

Any person in the gardening can tell you that pest control is serious business. Especially if you're growing cabbage and tomatoes. You're likely to find pests around some of such crops and it can be really hard to get rid of some of those pests. After reading through lot of community members experience I have come up with a list of pesticides that you can use safely in the garden.

Let's talk about some of the unusual natural pesticides you can use in garden and for storage.

Azadirachta Indica

While living in china I came across this tree. The water from the leaves extracts is very helpful for getting rid of the bacteria. And some of the bacterias that grows on the tomatoes and corn. Those can be easily removed using this water. It is completely safe and people also use the Azadirachta indica in their bath. So for the off grid living you can think of as your shower water for disinfections naturally. It doesn't have to be water spray even keeping the leaves nearby the crops in storage can keep lot of insects away.

Garlic Spray

They can be handy not just against vampires. But you can use them while storing some of the crops in your storage. They are known to keep away some really odd crops. And you can rest assure that it can take care of some of the insects that affect your storage.

Some people also make use of the garlic spray and use them on watermelon and few other crops. I don't know if it's efffective but I just managed to see that tip in one community.

Turmeric Spray

If you're storing the potatoes then make sure to keep some turmeric powder aside. As it can get rid of the insects that thrives on the stored potatoes. Though not all bacteria are removed with turmeric but it can get rid of few of them any way. So for storage purpose, the turmeric powder can be really handy.

What do you think? What are some of the natural or homemade pesticides that you can make use of in the garden? Do share your view on this.
