Looks Like A Pond! Concrete Liner Finished (Homestead Vlog)
Whew! After we made that Vlog yesterday introducing the pocket pond’s next steps, we worked on the pond into the night and got about 1/2 of the basin plastered with concrete.
Today we worked all day and got it finished up to the lip where we’ll set rocks, planting shelves (of differing levels for planting aquatic plants) and will have a spillway into the gardens.
It was a hot one today and mixing concrete in the sun and plastering makes for two tired homesteaders! By the end we were pretty beat, but wanted to finish the task up to the lip. If it rains, we were afraid it may erode if we didn’t get it up to the lip.

The hard work is definitely worth it when we think of the 1,500 gallons on the homestead and a habitat where we can grow cool aquatic plants and be home for frogs, fish and other life! So exciting!

Yup, Luci is always making making sure we get our playtime in. We're for sure pleased with the progress.

you two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would happily watch a body cam video.....that just cruised a long with ya'll the WHOLE DAY!!!! the ride to get cement....in town....and back...for the all night cementing of the pond!!! oh...and breakfast with ya'll...in the yurt! lol.....it looks sooooooo good! bring on that rain!!!!!!! i can see the spillway in my head now....gushing the runoff from the high tunnel and pond....down grade...into other areas of the forest! priceless!!! :)))
HAHA, good thinking. We should rig up that said body cam. I think it'd be funny to watch myself too. I can imagine me walking along and then bending to pull a few weeds, detour to scope some plant, frolic with luci, sucker some tomatoe. It would show me just how distracted I can get all the time.
You're always so supportive @rawutah. You're so AWESOME SAUCE <3. We're super happy how it sits on the landscape and couldn't wait to fill it, it's amazing how it feels! We may build a flow form that further energizers the currents on their way to elsewhere.
We now have to figure out how to get most of the high tunnel runoff INTO the future high tunnel hugel beds. A plan has been hatched.
oh my goodness, this is so neat. I can just now see the water lillies...sigh...What a wonderful project. Obviously a tough task with the rocky missouri soil ;) ox
THANKS! Us too. lilies are MUCH needed here. Tough task but well worth the effort. Water is so precious and certainly worth working for.
