I haven’t posted a homestead update in awhile, with the exception of the Weekly Chicken Gazette.
Mainly because there is not much going on in the garden and we periodically work on the “shed.” That will be revealed this coming Spring.
My friend David and I decided to go to a local horse farm and get a load of perfectly aged horse manure for the yard and the spring garden. The entire load was only $25.00! We are also going to totally redo the garden situation.
Going down to steps to begin spreading the manure, notice Sweetpea sunning herself under the wheelbarrow
There it is so rich and ready to spread
I began by dumping 6 wheelbarrows full and began to spread the original mulch pile from last year
The girls were happy to assist with the mulch pile
The manure is much darker then the mulch pile I started
I took a break after a couple of hours to wander over to the blooming Camelias. I have a dozen or so of mature plants in different colors. This one bloomed first.
Many of you know my Boxer dog “Lola”, here is Boadie the Calico an Barney the old orange kitty sunning on a perfect day!
Beep! Beep! This humvee will be patrolling by and assisting new veterans, retirees, and military members here on Steem. @shadow3scalpel will help by upvoting posts from a list of members maintained by @chairborne and responding to any questions replied to this comment.
Ho ho ho Merry Christmas.
Lovely cat much more of a cat person than a dog person myself :)
Thank you. I love them all, but am partial to dogs especially Boxers😉
That does look like a lovely load of manure. The garden should grow well with this.
It’s is delightful to find such a great deal, it will hopefully help the soil condition for Spring.
Nice score on the manure! Your garden is off to a great start with that and the compost.
The cats look so content. Sunbathing in December is a bonus!
Cats are bums, they sleep 16 hours a day and eat, then lounge around again.LOL if only I had their luxurious life!
I hope so, my fall garden revived but the bugs got everything but the Kale.🐓
See, that's why I like cats as clients. Top off the food and water, scoop the litter boxes, and see if they want to play... if they come out at all. Gravy gig for me! Lol!
Stinking bugs! From what you and everyone has been saying, I'm getting the impression kale is damn near indestructible. I don't care for it, but hubby likes it, so maybe I'll need to put on the list for next year.
Makes perfect sense to me.
Kale sautéed in garlic and olive oil is delicious, I put it in lots of things😉
Those Camellias are so beautiful. I bet those chickens had fun with the mulch and manure.
I love Camellias, something that will actually produce and look beautiful. Low maintenance.😉 the girls had a blast, they love something new in the yard to scratch and search.🐓
Your camelias are gorgeous. They obviously like their location very much. How long will the blooms last?
Thank-you, they flourish here during the winter months. They usually stay in bloom a week before beginning to wilt🐓
Happy Sunday! The newest Weekly Homesteading Newsletter has just been published and your article has been featured in the issue! Thank you and have a great day!
Thank you so much it’s much appreciated🐓
