Florida Cracker Cattle
Some neighbors of ours have a couple hundred acres of land and they chose to raise "Cracker" cows as there are called here in Florida. Cracker cows are much smaller in size then average beef cows. Very small versions of the cracker cow are known as "guineas" and usually weigh no more than 500 pounds. That's a big size difference when compared to beef cows that typically weigh 950 to 1000 pounds.
Cracker cattle are a descendant of the first cattle brought by ship to Florida in the 1500's by the Spaniards. They are docile and are considered a threatened species. Many people in the area have begun to raise the cracker cow for a variety of reasons, they are native and small making them the idea livestock for landowners. They eat less and are easy to manage. Plus they're cute!
While driving by on my home yesterday, I spotted a new calf and the mother so I made a collage of photos.🐓

They have horns, thank goodness they are docile. I think they are cute as well, have wanted to get some myself. Been trying to convince my better half to get a few, not many just 3 or 4. I love to watch cattle in the fields they amuse me. My favorite time of year is when the calfs come, so cute.
Yes I would want no more than 4, to entertain myself really haha I miss having pygmy goats for that same reason, springtime is just too adorable!
I think we do for it the same reasons. It is entertaining till something weird happens😀 Like when Sweetpea one of the Easter eggers had poopy butt and I had to give her a bath!
At first I wanted goats until I got to know the neighbors who had a large herd and good lord what a hot mess those two were! The neighbors not the goats. I did see how goats could be high maintence. I do love those cute little Pygmys.🐓
Pygmys are cute but they are a handfull never doing more than 10 again! Haha I hate giving my chickens a bath, in summer sometimes the do it themselves in the shallow edge of my pond which scares me. They are such oddballs.
