Tiny Chicks and Another Heatwave.

The quail chicks are here!

Fuzzy baked beans on legs! These little guys are smaller than a ping pong ball.

It wasn't the most successful hatch as there were a few that reached full term, but died before, during or just after hatch. That usually happens when the hen isn't at full health at lay. I probably collected the eggs a bit too soon after the extreme heat we had. On the positive side, I guess the healthy chicks will be from the strongest birds, to produce a healthy egg so soon after a stressful event.

Chicks are the messiest! Except for ducklings...

Just when we thought we were on track for cooler weather as we approach Autumn, we're having another week of high 30s and low 40s (that's about 100+ mark for the Fahrenheit people). So that water bill is going to be creeping up again.

Apart from pulling a few weeds and feeding the rabbits and chickens with them, I've still done little in the garden and won't be doing much this week again with the heat.

The sick chickens are improving, so it's been worth separating them out and getting them on the colloidal silver. Now I just have to try and keep them cool through this heatwave again.

Next month should see some chicken chicks and baby bunnies. Some rain wouldn't go amiss either.

AAAAHHHHHHH LITTLE CHEEPY CHICKLETS SEE THEM THEY'RE SO CUTE.

Ahem.

I passed on the "fuzzy baked beans on legs" description to my partner and he agrees XD

It's always sad when chicklets die :< hopefully the survivors are tough nuts! And glad to hear the sicky chickies are getting better :)

😆😍
They have such cute little faces it's so hard to see them go. The 11 survivors are doing well, though. Growing fast and already jumping out their little basket that I put them in while I clean out. I had to get my daughters supervising, because they were like popcorn popping out all over the place!

It's a relief that the sick ones are improving. I'm hoping once this heatwave's done some can start going back with their flocks.

Mental image of chicklets popping out of basket like popcorn was the best XD

We seem to be summoning something with the "p" word...😒

It's supposed to be summoned with a bang command, maybe they changed it to just match for the word :|

aweeeeeeeeeeeeee that so cute. Cant wait to see the baby bunnies. I hope the heat wave doesnt cause to much discomfort

Just got to get through 2 more days of 40°C, then it should drop by 10°.
Our doe, Fern is seeing her nest up ready for the new arrivals. Fingers crossed it will be a healthy birth. Even inside I've been giving the rabbits ice bottles. The aircon isn't the best.

Amazing that these things hatch out of things barely bigger than a Cadbury's mini egg! Then they run around and feed themselves, like independent fuzzballs.

The third one from the left is colored like a pingpong ball too. LOL

I need to get some more photos. They're feathering up and growing so fast!
