What an unusual colour mud / earth! I'm used to Devon red cliffs, soil and sand, but wow that is almost bright orange!
I love seeing all the photos and watching the progress being made, what a difference from the 1st photo to the last in this post!

yes michelle.. you would never know these planter walls are made like that looking at them now.. They are nicely plastered with a red oxide finish and look quite nice and are very strong!
The mud here indeed is quite unusual.. The site i built on has a lovely clay and sand mix with a LOT of Iron .. so its quite bright and orange yes.. If you put a magnet on the soil you get loads of bits of Iron on it! ;)
