Goats from God

Our homestead is in the Philippines. This article is a continuation and progress installment on building a house or barn for our goats.

The idea:

Give a doe goat to a family as goats require very little care as they will eat most anything.

  • They find a sire for the goat and after she gives birth, they give us back a doe out of the first lot.
  • The return of the first girl baby keeps the ministry going.
  • The family can sell any subsequent kid goats for between $20 and $40 each or 1000 to 2000 pesos.
  • The momma goat can be milked. Goats milk is, many times better for human consumption than cows milk.
  • Our area has no dairy. Goats milk is delicious and nutritious.
  • We are going to try our hand at making goatcheese.
  • The recipient family can eat the goat, providing necessary food for the family.

The frame made of coconut wood. The four corners made of bamboo. Later you will see the walls and floor will be dressed with split bamboo. The floor high off of the ground so that the manure will go through and we can clean underneath. The manure will be great for our gardens and fruit trees.

Our chicken coop, dog house and now our goat house are made like traditional Filipino design, along with a few changes from me. One of the changes is a metal roof instead of nipa or thatch.

We have started the floor and walls with split bamboo. The weather here is always warm so there is places for ventilation. Spaces on the floor to allow the manure to fall through. Please watch the video on how the bamboo is split.

Later there will be steps and a pen.

Below is the video of how they split the bamboo we are using on the walls and floor.

Also if you missed it, a video of cutting the lumber for the frame freehanding with a chainsaw on our property.

I like the look of the tradional construction as it blends in nicely with the surroundings!

Pro 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
