Taking Your Kids Trout Fishing - Rockbridge, Missouri
About 20 years ago as a teenager, I had the experience of visiting Rockbridge, Missouri. It was a great experience and I told myself then that this would be a great place to bring my children one day. That day came true on our way back to the homestead from Saint Louis.
Rockbridge grows their own trout in their own hatchery and releases them in their fresh water spring fed stream. But the Rockbridge grown trout are created as 2nd or 3rd generation trout. Trout are usually a harder fish to catch. You have to use thinner line, smaller hooks and bait as the trout will figure out that they're not real. But these trout are simple to catch making this a wonderful opportunity for children to experience the fight on a line and land their first fish.
It's a private establishment so no fishing license is needed. Kids fish for free. But you have to keep what you catch and they charge by the pound. At the time of our visit, the price was $6.44 a pound. The store bought price I checked in town at the local STL grocer was $5.99 per 6 ounces. So not a bad deal.
Plus, Rockbridge staff will filet and debone your catch as part of the price. They will even cook your catch how you want that evening in their restaurant.
So we arrived and started a little fishing after we got settled in. The boys were loving it!
The boys got started and pulled in 4 nice fish before we decided to call it quits for the evening. Besides, we decided to turn 3 of the fish in to be cooked for dinner that evening.
The scenery is great too! There is an old 1800's grist mill on site.
There are lots of places to grab some amazing photos. Early the next morning a bald eagle was sitting on a branch over looking the stream doing some fishing as well. But I failed to get a picture.
The next day we got up and got too it again! We caught about 6 more fish and turned them in to be filleted and put inside the cooler to take home. We wanted to get on the road so we could be home Friday afternoon. The kids proudly showing off their morning catch!
So if you really want to visit an amazing fishing lodge and facility and give your kids an experience they will not forget, think about Rockbridge Trout Lodge. I know we will for sure be back!

Wow, that looks like a wonderful experience! My kids love fishing too, tho we're all the way up in Minnesota. Perhaps a vacation one day is in order!

Nothing like fresh caught trout! Especially since the boys caught their own. Great memories that they will surely pass on to yourgrandchildren!
What a great place and perfect for younger children who might not have the patience for a more difficult fishing situation. No better way to get kids hooked on fishing then some success.
