BUYING A SAWMILL
It's a very popular idea for homesteaders to buy a sawmill for your homestead. Especially is you have timber that you can turn into lumber. This option allows you to make your own wood for building projects around you home and land. So the benefits are obvious. But what is the right choice.
Well, the right option for one may not be the right option for another. So this video is meant to explain our decision on why we chose the sawmill we did. It's the M14 Foley Belsaw Sawmill.
If you're not looking to spend a fortune for a really good sawmill, the Foley Belsaw, if you can find one is the way to go. They're out there but you'll have to look.

A circular saw mill with carbide inserts is the way to go.
I think they cut much more consistently and a bandsaw does not like it when you cut a nail or a bullet that's been in a tree for 75 years.

I wish, they don't make carbide teeth for this blade. It's too old. But the next blade I get WILL HAVE CARBIDE teeth....for SURE!
There's a "magazine" (more like a broadsheet the size of the grocery store tabloids) called Farm Show. A lot of times they'll include short articles about people manufacturing out of production components for things like tractors and farm implements. You might try that, maybe someone is making carbide inserts?

Yeah you will love the Foley. It does a great job!
great points. My choice is a a Lucus mill great portable circular not cheep though but fantastic for denominational would any with up to about 16 inches.
Band saw are great for slabbing for wider widths Love the video hope to see more.
Head rigs, Bell saw, are fantastic for low cost as you say

They are. Light portable but really pricey. Head rigs are great too. As you said in the video, a bit harder to get used to cutting, turning the log etc. head rigs are easier to maintain by a long shot.

I do custom cabinetry have been for 30+ years , only time I've seen a band saw for rough cut was when we would rip 16/4 or larger . Have to have a power feed set at about 1/3 what a circular saw blade cut's . Why because it's a band saw . Only problem we ever ran into was speed , band saw's cut thru about everything their just slower . Boil's down to this if you can wait 20 + years for a tree to grow , down it, season or pond it for a year you really should take the time not to throw 5-7 years of growth on the ground . Waste not want not. ( Plant replacement's 3 up for 1 down) And ware a respirator it's Ceder !! Shit'll give you lung infection from hell !!
