Other Projects Around The Homestead Right Now!

So in addition to my Camp Cabin, there have been other things going on around here. For one thing, I have been bringing in some of my warm weather things. A couple peppers, and a tomato plant that were in pots close to the house where they missed our earlier frosts. I also brought in my lemon tree. The Lemon tree is two years old, but suffered a terrible setback last year, when it got broken off. However, it is coming along fine now. Won't be having lemons until 2018 though. Still, it certainly brightens up my living room though.

I have also been doing some crocheting. I made a hat, and took a wack at some leaves that my daughter-in-law did for Thanksgiving. Hers were better. I also have been working on a good thick cardigan for winter. I am making it out of the Lions Homespun yarn that I bought a couple seasons ago. It is a dark gray.

I also am working on designing the inside of my camp cabin. I bought a galvanized tub, that I am intending on turning into a sink. I also bought some spray paint, and PVC to make a decoration for the door. I am planning on building the doors for this cabin, as I want a more rustic look. As I go along, I will insulate, and trim it out, as time permits. After the roof is on, I will seal the floor. I'd like to braid a rug for the floor. My plan is to buy up old wool coats, and cut them into strips for the rug. I also have my eye on a hanging oil lamp from Lehman's to use as lighting. I want the place to be surprisingly comfortable when it is done. I want it to be somewhere that someone just wants to curl up, and stay, a bit of peace in a crazy world.

I am also starting to contemplate next year's gardens. This winter, I am going to spend collecting mulch, and laying it down where I want the gardens to be. I am also going to buy potting soil while it is clearanced, and start filling tubs, and other containers, as well as building trellises, and other useful garden appliances, with sticks, and twigs.

I am already contemplating the planting of the Cole crops in December, indoors. Actually I already planted some just last week, it a tub outside that holds my fig tree. I put in some Kale, turnips, and Kohlrabi, along with some lettuces, and onion seeds This is on the South side right next to the house. If it gets too nasty, I will cover it with plastic. Already, I have little seedlings. I figure whatever grows, can help protect my fig's roots. The onions will be transplanted later to the garden.

I am wanting to add to my Perennial beds this year. First, they need to be deeply mulched. Currently, I have Cardoon, Comfrey, Horseradish, and Asparagus. I would like to add some Artichokes, some Rhubarb, some Good King Henry, and a few other Perennial herbs and flowers to that bed. I have a real hard time in that bed controlling some bad grasses, and some bind weed, but I am working on it. Nevertheless, the plants just seem to keep growing right through it all...
