Adults only a day or so old

The final stage of the Mealworm Palace saga has been reached, although its more of a return to the beginning.

The Mealworms have gone from madly reproducing Darkling Beetles in the top tray to eggs and larvae in the next two. There, they have lived as happy larvae for a month or so eating bran and drinking from vegetable scraps. Then they curled up into safe little pupae and were transferred to the bottom tray where the last part of the story is being played out.

Over the last week, the pupae have been hatching into light brown adult beetles which I've been transferring to the top tray so that they can reach full maturity and continue the cycle by laying thousands more eggs and on the way through the cycle again, make lots more frass for us to use in the garden. Cycles are amazing.

Isnt life a wonderful thing?
