Baby Chicks Outside... Almost

Finally got these little guys out in the outside cage for the day. I was very excited. I already knew they would be going back in at night for another week or so but it was still nice to get them out and dump the brooder tanks.

You can see they are just getting not quite getting feathers on their bodies yet but they are getting big. Should be about 3 weeks old now.

I was a little surprised to see they started to over heat a little bit and I had to get them back inside. I don't have the tin roof on yet since I need to fix a leg first but I am guessing that the lack of feathers was the problem. The feathers not only keep them warm but also keep the cool but they will be out soon enough and with two of these rabbit cages I refurbished for chickens that are 12 ft by 3 ft I should have plenty of room for chicks before they are ready to hit the padlocks. Now I just have to build more rabbit cages for all the baby rabbits coming...
