There Is A New Sheriff In Town! –Our New Bull Is Here

Hello, again everyone! I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start. I am a little behind on the happenings on our homestead, with all the warmer weather we have been getting it is hard to keep up. So, I am trying to play a little catch up.

Well a couple of days ago, I introduced our newest addition to our herd of Dexter cattle. Today, I am introducing another new member. It’s not a baby, but it is our new bull. Here take a look.

The bull we had was getting a little old and, since all our cows were young, we wanted a younger bull that we could keep for several years. There were also some other aspects that we were looking for in a bull. The two big things were that he would have to be homozygous polled and has the A2/A2. It took us a couple years, but we finally found one that meets all our qualifications. The homozygous polled means that they do not carry any gene for horns. From my understanding, that no matter what cow they are breed to, every cow should be polled. The A2/A2 is something new and there is some, but not a lot of research concerning it. From what I have read, A2/A2 milk is supposed to be good for those with lactose problems and some have claimed that they are able to drink this type of milk without any issues. I have read goat milk and even human’s milk is A2/A2, but since some people do not like the taste of goat’s milk this may be an option for some to look into.

He is a little less than two years old, so he will be able to grow with our herd and we should be able to keep him for a long time. He came to us from several states away from a gentleman in Missouri and seems to have settled in nice. The funny part is that he seems to act like he has always been here. So far, we are very happy with him.

Thanks for reading and stopping by!

Thanks @bowentroyer! He is short and it appears that he will eventually get real stocky.

Handsome! That's some really interesting info. I didn't know any of that. Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks @hethur240! We really just learned about some of this stuff in the last year or two, so it is still fairly new and I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by!
