Living in a small shed cabin part 2

Working on what our interior layout will be in our 14x30 lofted barn-cabin. We’d purchased a 3D interior layout app to design what we THOUGHT would be the most functional, but decided to try a mock layout to see how it would really look before we put the plan into action. So glad we did!! Using blue painters tape on the floor to outline walls and appliances, and camping tables to simulate the space in the kitchen, we discovered that what looked good on the app was not at all functional. 

• So, using the blue tape on the floor,and camp tables to layout a new design, we found one we like a lot. The east end will have a nice sized bathroom with a tub/shower, sink with counter space, and toilet, and the kitchen will have decent counter space with a full sized stove/oven, sink and fridge, and a stackable washer and dryer. That will put all of the plumbing and drainage in one area and make it easier to insulate. 

• Where the striped sheet is, will be a wall with two sliding barn doors on each side that meet in the middle. We can have artwork/photos on the sliding doors since they will not overlap. Having the doors on both sides will help with natural lighting and cross ventilation and airflow. The living area will be large enough for our favorite recliners, a loveseat/sofa, and shelves and a small heating system. (Still researching heating options. There are a lot of cool options to choose from.)

• On the back side of the sheet (wall) will be a queen sized Murphy bed with shelves and storage on both sides of the bed, a folding desk that comes down when the bed is up, making that space a bedroom and an office. Since she is a “remote-working” systems engineer she is required to have a dedicated room for work. (Video conferences don’t look very professional from a recliner!) 

• With an 8x30 screened in porch out the front (facing the river) we will build an outdoor kitchen to use in milder weather.

• Glad we decided to “try-it-before-you-buy-it”. Just because it looks good on a fancy 3D software design package does not mean it’s going to be functional for you in real life.

• East end will have the bathroom to the left (inside the sheet-enclosed area), and the kitchen area on the right. The white door is the back door.

• Where the sheet is hanging will be a full wall with sliding doors on each side that meet in the middle. The wall and doors will have glass transom windows on the top 1/3 to allow natural light and airflow through the cabin. We can have art/photos on the sliding doors since they won’t overlap

• The view from the front of the cabin. The Llano River is 50 yards wide, up to 15 feet deep in the middle, with a 260 foot bluff on the opposite bank. We are near the headwaters of the river, and it’s spring-fed with clear, clean water. No neighbors on either side of us for 1/2 mile. A low water crossing 1/4 mile to the west and rapid 1/4 mile to the east keeps the river private.

• We found this on Pinterest and this is what we want to do with our bathroom , including the sliding door.

• We plan to build a 30x8 screened in porch on the front this Spring. The front faces the river. There are 2 acres of woods to the back (North) with a paved county road as access.
