Jacob Goes Off Grid Day 219 Part 1
This is a video from Day 219 of going off-grid. I went 'off grid' six hundred and ninety-one days ago and it has been quite the journey since I got dropped off at this old fallow farm and built (continue to build) all my own infrastructure. I have been video documenting the entire process and have just recently begun publicly sharing some of the videos. I have been sharing the videos privately since I started the entire process which I call Jacob Goes Off Grid In The Woods.
'Day 1' is the morning after I arrived at this little place in the mountains in the 'dead of winter' on January thirteenth of two thousand and seventeen with my dogs, my wits, minimal gear and very little hard currency to work with. Slowly I have done my best to breathe life into a very old farm and give it all my best, 'learning as I go', and documenting the process as best I can. It has been quite the journey so far. @jacobpeacock
In this video I talk about spending a lot of that day in the new homestead area getting things organized and cutting back some of the brush around the building.
I show some steps for the front door of the building that I built with some log rounds and lumber. I explain the process that I used to fasten the lumber and log rounds together so that the steps would be solid and stable.
I show a hand pump for pumping water out of a water carboy and talk about how much easier it makes things.
I show a cart that I built years ago and explain how I attach a large umbrella to it. I talk about using the cart as a work table and talk some about the construction of it.
I talk about hauling a few wagon loads of stuff from the shack area and how it was mainly stuff that I needed like my 'kitchen setup'.
I show a rice dish that I made that contained, pears, chicken of the woods mushrooms, apples and potatoes that I grew.
As always this is just a summary of the video's content and not meant to explain everything that I cover in the video.
