Calamansi_or_Philippine_lime_is_a_citrus_fruit_tree_that_bears_small_edible_fruits_rich_in_Vitamin_C._It_tastes_very_sour_and_sometimes_a_little_bitter_but_the_peel_is_sweet._Calamansi_is_not_readily_available_here_in_Edmonton._Only_a_few_stores_sell_them_and_I_find_them_a_bit_pricey_so_I_decided_to_try_and_grow_calamansi
indoors.

It_is_usually_used_in_cooking_or_marinading_because_of_the_great_flavor_it_gives._Sore_throat?Drink_calamansi_juice_with_honey🙂_Eating_Filipino_food,_grilled_meat_or_sea_foods?You_need_a_simple_Filipino_dip_to_go_with_it–_soy_sauce_mixed_with_calamansi_and_chili!Now_I’m_getting_hungry🙂Let’s_get_started_and_grow_calamansi_indoors!!

Materials_to_Grow_Calamansi_Indoors

1._Prepare_the_soil
Fill_up_your_pot_or_container_with_soil_that_drains_well._I_used_Miracle-Gro_potting_soil_since_I_still_have_some_left_from_my_previous_projects._I_also_decided_to_water_the_soil_before_planting_the_seeds._Reason?Nothing_specific🙂_I_just_wanted_it_wet_hehehe

2._Get_the_Calamansi_seeds

Now_that_the_soil_is_ready,_time_to_get_the_seeds_out_of_the_calamansi._One_calamansi_may_contain_5_or_more_big_seeds_inside_so_we_want_to_avoid_them._Simply_cut_across_the_top_of_the_Philippine_lime_so_that_you_won’t_cut_through_the_seeds._Squeeze_all_the_juice_and_seeds_into_a_container._Using_a_fork,_fish_out_the_calamansi_seeds_and_put_them_aside._As_for_the_juice,_you_can_use_it_for_cooking,_make_calamansi_and_soy_sauce_dip,_make_calamansi_juice_etc..__Now_that_you_have_the_seeds_you_are_ready_to_grow_calamansi

3._Plant_the_Calamansi_seeds

I_used_my_fingers_to_poke_one_inch_deep_holes_in_the_soil_we_prepared_previously._I_don’t_really_know_if_it_is_necessary_to_space_them_out_so_I_prepared_pots.One_pot_contains_beautifully_spaced_out_seeds_as_shown_below🙂Another_pot_where_I_just_threw_in_all_the_remaining_calamansi_seeds_we_got_from_the_Philippine_limes.

4._Cover_with_plastic_cover_or_food_film

Since_I’m_in_winter_wonder_land,_I_decided_to_cover_the_pots_with_food_film_or_plastic_wrap._It_helps_keep_the_seeds_warm_and_traps_moisture_as_well._I_left_a_small_opening_on_the_side_for_air_ventilation._Do_not_completely_seal.

5._What_Calamansi_loves

Camalansi_trees_grow_in_tropical_and_subtropical_climate,_we_want_to_make_sure_our_Philippine_lime_is_exposed_under_the_same_conditions_as_best_as_possible._Full_sun,_warm_temperature,_moist_soil,_humid_and_so_on._Since_our_winters_are_normally_six_months_long_out_here,_I_placed_mine_on_the_windowsill_of_a_south-facing_window._The_plastic_wrap_will_do_most_of_the_trick

!!_Direct_Sun_or_Partially_Shaded?
Summer_is_here!!_It’s_to_bring_my_calamansi_plants_outside._I_read_in_a_lot_of_sources_that_they_need_full_direct_sun._I_tried_but_found_that_direct_sun_here_in_Edmonton,_Alberta_during_summer_is_very_harsh._Some_of_the_leaves_of_my_calamansi_seedlings_started_to_turn_crispy_golden_brown._A_few_died_so_I_decided_to_keep_them_partially_shaded_and_the_leaves_started_to_turn_into_their_healthy_shiny_dark_green_color.
