HOW I'M KEEPING THE DEER & BUNNY AWAY FROM THE EARLY SPRING CROPS

One of the things I worried about and I'm sure a lot of us do is wildlife eating are hard work. Here in North Carolinal there are deer, bunny rabbits and moles/voles that would love to get their teeth around my early spring crops.

To keep the deer and rabbit away I have set up electric poultry Nets around the plants. The moles and voles are a different story and for another post.

These beautiful little Swiss Chard wouldn't stand a chance against a deer or a hungry rabbit. The early spring leafy greens are prime pickings for the veggie loving wildlife.

We buy our electric poultry Nets and energizer's from Premier1 online. They also sell electric Pig netting that I use for moving my pigs around on pasture or in the woods.

The deer around here are pretty skittish and will usually stay away from things not found in nature. As you can see in the background of the photo above we like to put some of the chicken tractors around the gardens. The chicken tractors get moved every day so they're always in a different spot. I like to believe that the presence of a man-made chicken tractor that is never in the same spot for very long accompanied with the chickens making noise helps keep the deer away.

Oh and I can feed the scraps that come out of the gardens to the chickens!

The small solar energizer's will push about eight thousand volts through the netting. It also pulsates so you don't have to worry about coming out the next day in finding a bunny stuck to it or you sticking to it. 😣 There's pretty much a deer Highway about 50 yards away back in the woods and so far they have kept their distance.

Check out what I bought myself for my 36th birthday on the 10th. A big beautiful blueberry bush. This will be the first blueberry bush going in Food Forest #2. It's a toss-up for me on which I enjoy eating more straight off the plant. Blueberries or strawberries. How about you?

Great work! Looks like a great setup to keep those pesky critters out! Best of luck!

Thank you. It is work so far and hopefully will keep working.

Hopefully so!

Wow I am surprised the deer don't jump over that fence! I'm glad its working well for you :)

I'm happy they haven't. You can hear a faint ticking of the electricity running through the netting. That might help keep them away as well

Good point. that's interesting! I wonder if it works with the deer here too :)

Don't see why it wouldn't work. Unless the deer there are used to jumping over electric fences. The ones here seem to stay away from them.

I think I prefer blueberries! I'm sure you'll do a good job of keeping those thieves away with those electric fences! Nice gardens

Thank you. I hope so!

Cool blueberry bush! I've never seen one. That electric fence sounds pretty intense but you gotta do what you gotta do! That makes sense that chicken noise would keep deer away! Hopefully this works for you! We don't have deer...or wild rabbits or moles around this area. I'm not sure what all we have other than street dogs and insects that attack plants. Hm...maybe we should look into that! Ha!

Thank you for your comment and reading my post! Insects can be a big problem too. I understand.
