Traditional Cornbread Dressing

Take a break from the boxed stuffing and make your own! This traditional cornbread dressing is light, flavorful and perfect for your holiday or anytime!

My oldest son is a dressing freak. He could easily eat 4-5 boxes of the stuff himself, and he can do it any time of year. Not just around the holidays. He loves his dressing any time of year.

That's my boy, what can I say? When we have our big family dinners, turkey dinner with all the trimmings is the most often requested. No worries, it's only a couple times of year that they really want that. When I make a big dinner like that, of course I am going to go all out and make homemade dressing.

This traditional cornbread dressing takes it up a notch. Or two. Maybe even three.

What's so special about this traditional cornbread dressing? Well, besides all the flavors, it's a great way to use up that extra batch of cornbread you made to go with your chili. Dressing gets it's flavor and texture from dry, crumbly breads, which is why it came to be in the first place.

You just know that some Mom, somewhere, decided that she was tired of throwing away stale cornbread and made the first batch of traditional cornbread dressing. "Honey, eat it, it's good for you."

"But, Maaaaahm.... it's stale cornbread."

"EAT YOUR DINNER!"

Sounds like my house when the kids were little. Dinner wasn't always an argument, but getting them to try new things wasn't always easy. Selling my oldest son on this homemade cornbread dressing instead of the boxed kind was almost like pulling teeth.

Until he tried it, that is. That's when he decided that it was a winner.

This traditional cornbread dressing is sure to be a hit with your family, too. Make this for your next family dinner and enjoy all the "ohs and "ahs" that are sure to follow!
