My 2B always sinks into the ground eventually (and some wash out too). My buddy dug down 10" in his whole driveway and put the geotextile fabric in and I've been pretty impressed with the results 15 years in!
thats why we put a base layer of large #3 rock about 9 inches thick. packed it in. then we put the 2B on top of that. the 2B cant go through the #3 rock layer. as for washing out, our driveway tilts away from road and we have a brick entrance from road for about 3 feet. keeps gravel in and doesnt allow the storm waters to affect the gravel.
ive never had a problem keeping it but then ive only had the base layer for 4.5 years so far. did pretty well but glad we finally got it finished.
