Landscaping can be said to be multi-disciplinary in nature because it’s study and practice by planners, architectures, environmentalist, engineers and horticulturists.

Landscaping is multi-disciplinary because it’s a job that cut across many disciplines and it execution is a joint business or better put as team work, although nowadays there is conflict on who should be leading the team but that’s a discussion for another day or better still you can decide that after reading their roles. But before I start to analyze their roles one after the other let try to remind ourselves on what landscaping is all about.

Meaning of landscaping

Landscaping can be said to be the process of adding some aesthetics touches to our environment which can be through vegetal addition [soft landscaping] such as flowers, shrubs, grasses, ferns, ornaments and the likes or through the addition or construction of structures such as fence, interlocking, kerbs, pathways and the likes.

Since what we are so concern about today is the addition of aesthetics through vegetal [soft landscaping] it’s therefore inevitable to take a close look at what soft landscaping is all about.

Glimpse into what soft landscaping is about

Soft landscaping as already mentioned above is the process of adding beauty and improving our immediate environment through the addition of vegetal such as ferns, flowers, shrubs, grasses and the likes and its very crucial to our well being because apart from the fact that it serve as a buffer zone [to separate one building from another] it also help to reduce the noise level in the environment.

The roles of landscape planner is numerous in soft landscaping designs because he is the one in charge of planning and monitoring of such designs conformity to planning standard but before we start to analyzing the landscape planner roles, let check the meaning of landscape planning & monitoring.

Landscape planning & monitoring is the process of carefully arranging and supervising soft landscaping designs in order to ensure an organized vista

It must also be noted that a landscape planner being the project coordinator can plant and arrange landscape settings.

Landscape architecture is the graphic communication of notion and idea as developed in the mind of a landscape architect to produce workable display of aesthetics using elementary drawing tenet

The roles of landscaping horticulturist is also numerous in landscaping designs, it can even be said to be more than that of the landscape planner because landscape horticulturist major concern is the save guarding and nursing of the vegetal which is the primary goal of soft landscaping.

Landscaping horticulture is the process of applying basic agricultural principle especially in crop science to the planning, designing, construction and execution of landscaping projects.

o He replaces the withered plants and reactivates the malnourished plants in the gardening.

Landscaping being multi disciplinary in nature cut across the field of planner, architect and horticulturist and it must be noted that they all have one or two roles to play which is in one way or other crucial to the success of landscaping designs, they are all important in soft landscaping designs and maintenance.
