Cheap Mini Blinds Repurposed Roman Shades

in #homesteading7 years ago

Everyone Needs Curtains but the Cost of Having Something That is Not Only Fitted Properly But Also Suits Your Decor is Outrageous! For 5 Roman Shades Which All Happen to Be Odd Ball Sizes, I Priced it Out to Be at Least $2000.00! Seriously!!! How Can Anyone in Their Right Mind Even Consider Paying That Amount.
So The Frugal Gal in Me Said If You Can't Buy Them, Make Them!

Each Roman Shade Took Me 30min to Make and Only Cost Approximately $20!!! Not Only Do They Look Great But They are Fully Functional.
Now Here's the Next Best Part of it All... I Didn't Sew Any of it! What??? Yes... I Did Not Even Touch a Needle or Thread :)

I Bet Your Dying to Find Out How I Did it, So Here We Go!

Step #1 Purchase the Correct Width and Length of Vinyl Mini Blinds for Your Window.

Step #2 After Lying Your Blind on a Flat Surface Fully Extended, Cut the Ladder Strings

Step #3 Use a small screwdriver and pop off the plug on the bottom piece of the blinds. Inside you’ll see the end of that thick, pull-up cord tied in a knot. Untie or Cut off the Knot and Remove all of the Slates Except the Number of Folds You Want to Have in Your Shade, Then Retie it.

Step #4 Measure your Fabric. Add 1-2” to each side. So, if your window is 40×50 then you need your fabric to be at least 42-44”x52-54”. You also need to decide how many folds you want your shade to have. This will determine how many slats you will keep. I spaced mine about 11 1/2 inches apart, which gave me 4 slats and then the bottom piece.

Step #5 Next Using an Iron and No Sew Hemming Tape, Hem all 4 Sides of the Fabric Thus Reducing the Material to the Size of Your Mini Blind and Your Window.

Step #6 Glue the Top of the Fabric to the Top of the Mini Blind and Each of the Slates. Be Sure the Slats are All Level and Evenly Spaced. Do Not Glue the Thick String!

The First One May Take a Bit of Attention But Once You Get One Done the Rest will Be Very Fast and Much Worth the Efforts!
