Farm Update
On Thursday it rained and poured all day. I’d picked peas the day before and so my helper and I processed 17 pints of sugar pod peas. The rain tapered to a drizzle and we dashed out and picked big bowls of raspberry leaves for the dehydrators.
This would be the last loads in the dehydrators for about 10 days as it’s to be into the 90’s. I got both of them loaded while he finished off the peas.
Then I spent the afternoon watching Goodbye Christopher Robin. I really enjoyed it. It was interesting learning about how the books were created. I have old family editions of the 4 books A. A. Milne wrote. I’ve ordered a memoir by C. R. Milne and a biography of A. A. Milne from the library to read during these hot afternoons.
On Friday morning really early I unloaded the dehydrators as fast as I could as the humidity was about 100% and got the jar packed and sealed.
The next job was to take the cover off the hoophouse and hang it to dry. It was going to be too hot for a long time and warm enough at night it was not needed. I’d already cooked the poor ginger plants once.
Then I set about cleaning out more flowerbeds. I got 2 sections of this fence garden cleaned out, plus the violet bed on the left that anchors the driveway bank. The sun got too hot about 10AM so I moved over to under the catalpa tree and cleaned out and amended that garden. By 11:30 it was too hot in the shade, so I gave up.
I got cleaned up and we went to get some annual bedding plants at a local greenhouse. This time of year they are on sale. So I’ll plant what’s left of my seedlings and add these for color under the catalpa.
Today, Saturday, I must package the butter my helper made yesterday and then go pick potato bugs off the potatoes. After that fun job, I can resume work in the gardens until it is again too hot.
A Wrinkle in Time I’d ordered from the library came in last night so I will watch that in the afternoon. I’ve read the books many times, so I’m curious about the movie.
So that’s the doings on the farm these last few days.
Anyone else seen these movies or have any to suggest?

what a lovely update! Its almost like I was there with you. :) I really adore your weed sleds and envy your glut of peas! Sorry, I'm not qualified to suggest newer movies ... I watch Fried Green Tomatoes and the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood whenever I feel like a movie and I've watched them more times than I can count.
I didn't watch Fried but I have watched Divine a few times....
Ooo wish i had that many peas to harvest mine arnt to good at the minute 🙄 what you going to do with the raspberry leaves never though of it as something to store. Keep up the great work
My peas get foliar feed once a week and they get a raw milk spray to keep the powdery mildew at bay. This year it's working like a dream!
The raspberry leaves are dehydrated for the layers in the winter, part of the 42 different herbs/forbs/flowers I do so they have something when there's nothing growing. The beauty of dehydrating is that the material rehydrates to exactly as it was when dehydrated. Drying does not accomplish this.
