Garden Detective Time: What's The Culprit?
Cause For Concern
Just like with my children, family and my dog, when it comes to my garden, plants and herbs I am VERY protective. If they are upset or sad, I try to cheer them. If they are mopey I want to make the hurt go away.
So yesterday after I finished updating my indoor winter garden lighting, I noticed my lemon balm was looking a little brown around the edges.
Not every leaf, but a majority of them had the same appearance. My concern was on red alert.
Symptoms
- Brown leaf edges
- Still look healthy otherwise
- Leaves furthest away from root are affected
Possible Diagnoses
- Leaf Scorch (too much sunshine, hot weather conditions and lack of water) NOPE
- Bacterial Leaf Scorch - NOPE
- Lack of moisture (leaves cannot take in enough water as something is preventing the absorption)- POSSIBLE
- Over-fertilized (Too much and since indoors plants, I tend to check on them often) POSSIBLE
- Too close to window (Before moving lemon balm to new location it was directly in the window sill)- POSSIBLE
- Root rot (Over-watering- Again, indoor plant and I tend to mother them too much)- POSSIBLE
What To Do Now?
- I will not prune the leaves that are turning... yet.
- I am going to NOT water them as much.
- NO fertilizer or nutrients for a while.
- Move away from the window and place in new location closer to the back of the table.
- Research and see how I can get the leaves to absorb more water and stay hydrated; without using nutrients or fertilizer.
I feel like it is overwatering or overfertilizing as well. I hope it recovers!!! Let us know if it makes it.
Same here @hether240
I am adjusting my watering and such. WIll give a few days to a week then move to the next scenario.
