My entry for First Homestead Photography Contest

in #homesteading7 years ago

This is my entry for @knowledge-seeker's photo contest, First Homestead Photography Contest - Animals. Right now the farm is covered in snow and so are the animals. It makes for a pretty gnarly and white picture. I chose this picture of a goat we used to have named Barley. Barley was one our first 2 goats we got as bottle babies. Barley's brother Hops died of a bloat early on but Barley did well.

If we would have kept ONLY Barley, I think I would like goats, but all the subsequent goats we got led me to a deep seated dislike for their species. Now we have sheep which I like for their taste, wool, and they are far less destructive than goats. Still Barley was a cool goat but he was traded for sheep.

aww he is too cute. Innocent? Or not?

Generally he was innocent. You can see his rope I had him tethered with behind him on the right. I kept him tethered around the yard a lot to help clear the grass and underbrush.

Lol! Great picture! That's a contest winner if I ever saw one!

Hi there Barley, you're a beauty. ☺ Your photo now is on a Steemit entry and you're so adorable. If you win, come back. 😄 Saw your photos at Sola @flemingfarm and decided to check out your Steemit as I love the photos I saw there.

Ermahgerd! He's cuuuuuuute! 😂 Good luck. If I was the judge, you'd have the win!

This is a great photo! We too had goats for a short period of time. The were like dogs and would follow us around everywhere. If we could go back we would have probably kept them, but we moved to getting miniature cattle.

They can be extremely good animals but our situation meant they spent more time without us than with so we were not as close as probably could have been. They were in their pen with others or tethered out next to others, but our time was limited. Even now with our sheep I am fine with them being a tad skittish. We have cougars and wolves in this part of the state.

i'm not a big fan of goats either. barley's super stinkin' cute in this picture, though.
