Incoming Solar Power From Our New Panels
We installed 2 new 100watt solar panels. This brings us up to 500watts total.
What we are showing now is the power we are generating off our system after the new installs. We want to see a steady 14vdc or better throughout the day.
So here are some pictures of the controller (to show incoming power) and sky (to show show how much sun is out) and clock (to note the time of day)…
At 10:15am we had cloudy skies but sitting at 13.18vdc incoming solar power:
At 10:45am still cloudy skies but now sitting at 15.17vdc incoming solar power:
At 11:07am some clouds but now sitting at 16.44vdc incoming solar power:
At 1:20am with cloudy skies but now sitting at 15.38vdc incoming solar power:
So that is our Thanksgiving day solar power update…
Not to bad for a mostly cloudy day…

Is that wind turbine worth the trouble?
instead of having more solar panels?
most definitely useful. in winter it helps about 60-70% with power. we get a lot of wind in the winter. and when it storms at night it can generate a lot of power. in our open field it would be all we needed most of the year. but that is over 100 yards away so wire cables would have to much resistance in them. eventually we will get it another 20 feet higher above the tree line.
oh.
as always I'm considering it for my boat.
I could put one on top of the mast.
they make wind turbines specially for boats :)

Is this your only source of electricity or just supplemental?
i am 100% off entire utility grid. all my power comes from these solar panels and my wind turbine. water from spring. composting toilet. fire wood for heating and cooking and hot water.
Any plans of upgrading to a wireless solar system like Troy Reid?

my entire home is run on solar. we use two computers, water pump, lights, wifi, and misc gadgets. our fridge is non-electric. nothing in our home uses more than the USB 5v 2amp except the wifi which is 12vdc 1 amp and the water pump which is 12vdc 3amp only when on, and the computers which are 19vdc 1amp. we can run it all at once all day.
