Chicken Heaven - Build it Sustainably on Many Levels!steemCreated with Sketch.

Sustainability FTW!!!

There are so many facets of life that are truly enhanced by engaging sustainable action.
Sustainability affects every thing we do at the @gardenofeden.
Here is but one example of possibilities.

I most often begin and end my day with a trip to the chicken coop.

I am blessed with the most delicious and dense nutrition awaiting me on a daily basis, rain or shine!

At the @gardenofeden we love sustainability, and treating our chickens to their own heaven is no exception.

Utilizing abundantly available, free, salvaged materials is one of our fortes.

Not only are we able to create the things we need without purchasing from and supporting the corporate elite, we also need not pay for gym memberships (which utilize a/c, artificial lighting and often electricity for their machines, not to mention fuel, special shoes and clothing, and commitment to avoid the guilty vibe), sun tans, babysitters/day care, architects or builders.

We are using our imaginations to create something with great purpose, and spend our entire day with the children, empowering them to engage their own ingenuity and respect for the earth.

We create a one-of-a-kind structure with our own hands that has ample space to house our chickens, goats and rabbits.

We do it together using salvaged pallets and wooden bamboo pegs.

This is the first chicken coop we built, adding special additions to the front of salvaged wooden crates, shutters, an old door, and rescued piano parts.

This is how amazing it is in the morning with the sun rays peeking through.

This is the salvaged fence panel path I take on my journey to our new chicken coop.

We use sunflowers and other beneficial plants to shade the coop from the hot Texas sun.

The entry to our new coop is like entering a special hidden oasis.

This new coop is also decorated with salvaged materials - used door, shutters, plant roots and stems, nature's wood collage, tree bark and chicken wire.  Even the paper mache chicken mascot that peeks through the window was another's discarded treasure.

Letters that create "Chicken Heaven" were saved from a teenage prank which made them abundantly available in our yard!  Thanks Pranksters!

The door was decorated with, of course, more discarded/salvaged materials, making quite the statement upon entry.

Our chickens really have quite the life in their own handmade pallet castle.

I grew up with chickens (and other flocked and four-legged creatures), raised them with my children, and am still as grateful as ever for their existence.

Chickens are but one reality of a sustainable life that really spreads into many other areas of existence.  We trade with others to increase our flock, feed them food waste, provide them with well water, get our exercise, fresh air, sunshine, and incredible high-vibe nutrition.  Our eggs are also cooked with salvaged wood on our hand built rocket stoves with dirt from our own land. We are sharing the great benefits of using the available, free abundant resources with our children who are with people they love and who love them all day long.  They create with us, and together we increase our skill levels which will serve us all for a lifetime.

Living a sustainable life is incredibly rewarding.
As we do not have to immerse ourselves in supporting the things we do not believe in, we instead invest in our own well-being and share it prolifically.

I hope your day is also filled with impactful realities.
Thank you for sharing this moment with me.

So much creativity and caring in one place! Your coop is beautiful on so many levels. I'm sure your girls have the best life they could possibly have. Great work!!

Totally agree!

We have had so much fun building these coops. It's great to all be coming together for common purpose, to upgrade our existence, and to create something of value. I appreciate your appreciation @jaymorebeet!

I feel the same way about our ducks. We call their coop Duckingham Palace, and we built it entirely out of scavanged pallets too! We like to call my dad hte King of the Bottomfeeders because he brings home the booty for sure! Thanks for sharing such beautiful pictures of yours, it makes me want to upgrade hte palace...

hahahaha thats awesome!
Looks like you two have some beauty in common!

Awe....what an awesome comment @ladylunasi. I imagine we would fare quite well with you and the King of the Bottomfeeders!!! Seems we have much in common. Good for your ducks--so fun to have a palace of ducks!! <3 I'm going your way to see what's up with you.

Love it . I want some chickens so baaaad man. Like...it makes so much sense...can save you sooo much money...and it's rewarding, plus you don't necessarily have to kill the chickens. The females will produce eggs.

Chickens are a really great move. They are awesome on so many levels--even their poo is of great value!!! Thanks for your presence here @geechidan.

I really enjoy seeing the process, building chicken heaven in front of our eyes. So inspiring and I will bring this with me in the building of the Steembar which is going to serve cold pressed juices and ofc have a chat about Steem! :)

Steembar?!?!?!?!? How will you bring this with you? Going to build a pallet juice, chatty Steemit Bar? Hmmm...I'm intrigued. So glad to share something of value with you @reko!

Yes I dive every day so finding material is no problem :) My Green Star Elite is pretty mobile so i'll just bring it wherever I go for extended periods. Bought some graphiti spray in Steemit colors! I'll update as I go along! :)

We love our chickens too. You have quite an elaborate coop. Original ideas are the best. 🐓🐓

Original ideas are definitely my forte. Can't stop the creative juices from flowing!!! Nice to see you here @mother2chicks. Great screen name too btw.

Looks like your ideas are coming to fruition. Glad you stopped by. See you soon🐓🐓

Very creative coop! it came together nicely..... The use of reclaimed materials is something to many people avoid, kinda sad... Great post thanks!

It came together very fluidly and is super strong and durable. I'm really grateful to have become aware of all the materials that are available that no one else seems to want anymore. What a blessing to have such abundance and vision. I hope to inspire others. Thanks for your thanks!

Wonderful chicken coop. i spent part of my day with chickens today, some of them were giants!
I'm curious as to what teenage prank led to all those letters in your yard.

Ahahaha--chickening together we did!

It was a kind of toilet-papering middle of the night kinda prank. Though instead of decorating our trees with paper, they dumped a huge bin full of metal letters in our yard! Was quite the pain to clean-up, but I received these amazing letters I've been using for years.

Haha the joke was on them- they obviously didn't realise artists lived there!

Isn't that the truth!!! I was definitely not annoyed, I was blessed!

You got my vote and a resteem :]

Sweeeeeet!!! Thanks @ipkiss. Anyone checking into homesteading must be cool. I'll stop by your blog for a visit!

Beautiful. Upvoted & Resteemed so you can share this way of living with all of my followers as well. Thank you for helping us all learn a better way to be alive. I wish you all the best and hope you are able to continue sharing your journey with all of us here on SteemIt.

Oh!!! Thank you so very much @bi5h0p! It is truly an abundant and rewarding life -- doing what we want to do with the people we want to do it with! I am so excited to share. Thank you for being here! <3

Truly inspirational! You have very lucky chickens. Kudos and delicious homechooked eggs to you. :)

We take care of each other, the chickens and I!!! What a life!
