Cali winter is weird

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

California winters are weird to me. It snows, but not where I live. It gets cold, but not where I live. I am in northern California, in suburbia, essentially, so there is a micro-climate in addition to the already temperate nature of the seasons and for me, it equates to weird.

I lived in Maryland for a few years and enjoyed beautiful snows, torrential summer rainstorms, and all of the in between. I liked it, I loved it actually...everything but the humidity. I will take a hard pass on the southern summer humidity.

So, in my garden, here in northern California, although it is December, the bees (or bee) is still buzzing.

The flowers are still blooming and the sun is still shining.

Have you asked the natives if you might live in a magic wally? That would explain the patch of spring in the middle of the winter wonderland 🤔

I always find it strange to travel around the world to places that I expect are going to be a certain way and then are not, from a weather perspective. You might not like the weather you're getting now, but I have to say...That house and the snow...Looks pretty idyllic to me. Although here in Australia I've never had to deal with snow, so in reality the novelty may wear thin quickly.

@galenkp, I really loved my house in Maryland but it was way too big for just me, my dog, and my cat. It was on 1/3 acre in a historic district and it took me the entire time I was there just to terrace and build up eroded portions before I moved.

Oh yeah, I guess that's smart though...No need to have a house that's far too big for ones needs, although that tends to be what everyone wants these days...More. Consumerism at its finest.

The main thing is to be happy with what one has, and work around a need-based ethos rather than its ugly cousin the want-based ethos.

Seems like you've landed in a situation that you're making the best of now.

Thanks for replying.

Loved the photo with the bee, so clear, keep it coming the @farm-mom loves pictures of @nature. Oh I hope you love #steemit.
Welcome!

Nice to see you getting some good payouts on some of these. Looks like you're mixing it up pretty good!

I am grateful to be here. People are really welcoming and I am already learning a lot about homesteading, gardening, cooking.
