Squash Cage Gone Wild!

And so the inevitable has finally happened. The squash have taken over the garden. The experiment of putting three different plants into one cage has been relatively successful, but the beans are yet to fruit, though they are flowering at the tops. They spread themselves out to the neighboring beds, wrapping around some tomatoes, and up into the larch.

The cucumbers are doing superbly. So much that we can't collect them fast enough. One is as big as a steem whale!

I ended up cutting one of the butternut vines that was behind the larch. Two more spread around the larch, and have fruit on them, so we're leaving them alone. Yeah, they're completely in the way. It's exactly what we were trying to avoid, but at least it's limited and manageable, and we can always chop it back if we want to. There's another vine coming off the back toward the old potato bed, but we never replanted that bed, so it's fine too.

But look at the health of these plants! They're all strong and don't seem to have any problems with disease or pests. I got another 10 cucumbers last night!

And here are the baby squash. Hopefully the frost comes late or this will have all been for nothing.

Let me know what you think!

My butternut have decided that going north, instead of their usual southeast, is a good idea and are taking over my compost bins....
