Hugelkulture in Borneo

in #homesteading6 years ago (edited)

Couple days ago , i was doing up by vegetable bed. Growing our own vege is something that and and @viverridae has something in common. We did several try out , but most of them is mainly through pot . So the volume is pretty small.

Since we move our home from the city area to a village area, there is lots open space, so one of our early project was planting fruit trees and that was four years ago. Nowadays we are blessed with various fruits all throughout the year.

So the conversation about making a larger bed to test out our interested to grow vegetables came about, so the only thing to do is go and make one. LOL, Which i did.

We bought some seedling yesterday, so this will be our first test project.

As i was going about in youtube to get more insight about growing vegetables, i click upon something sound dutch or perhaps german and its called hugelkultur.

boy oh boy, it is so facinating. i can not help must to share what is it all about. by the way, in short the principal behind is the following;

  1. the use of rotten logs pile into making a little mount

  2. this include other material such as twigs , branches , dead leaf , etc.

  3. toward the top to put up soil and it is shape upward like a half cone.

  4. overtime the dead log becomes like a water storage for the plan to sustain it growth

  5. its a system that doesnt require irrigation

So i tried to figure out if there is much conversation about hugelkultur in my Sabah, apparently i found none or perhaps my searching skills i not that fantastic. anyway, if you wish to know more about it, check out this link and check out the video below. Perhaps in the future, there will be more homesteading community in this region get on steemit as we used homesteading to promote steemit alongside homesteading interest.

By the way , i decided to convert by little bed my made into a hugelkultur kind of system, just to test out if out of curiosity, if you have any personal experience on this, let me know. as for me, i am so excited about the possible outcome and share my experience in the future.
