Here's Another Pretty Boy Silkie Rooster - Looking For A New FlocksteemCreated with Sketch.

in #homesteading7 years ago

We have a total of 4 Silkie Roosters right now that need new flocks. They are all gorgeous! This guy here has a bit of a painted pattern. We just love the beards, tufts and fluffy feet on these guys. We are in the process of pairing down our flock. In fact we are going to find new homes for all of the roosters, then at some point look for a new handsome boy to take over watching over our hens. We figure it's about time for a genetic pool water change.

If you are in the local (San Antonio, TX) area and need a proud guardian for your flock, perhaps you should consider this young roo for the job.

The first second I saw the picture, I thought is was an alpaca 😅

Haha! no... no alpaca on the farm (yet). LOL

Some alpacas might be a great addition! They always make me smile ☺️ they're so cute and fuzzy!

We struggle to keep up with the animals we have, but I do agree that they are a pretty fun animal :)

I thought it was some unique type of animal or something, But yeah it is a unique and a nice post must follow for future posts from you :)

Thank you :) The Silkie rooster is unique with it's fluffy feathers, but he's still a rooster with lots of rooster pride!

hahaha I know that :p

Haha he is handsome ;)

In your experience, are there any advantages or disadvantages with silkies in comparison with other types of chickens?

The only "down side" is that size of the egg I think. They lay well, brood excellent, and are beautiful and friendly. The eggs are a bit smaller than most layer breeds. You do have to stay on top of the chore of collecting eggs, however because they will go broody and incubate eggs quickly.

Thanks for your first hand experience. They look like they would do well in cold climates with that fluffy coat. Magnificent looking bird.

I have to say, I have not been too impressed with roosters. We had one for our flock and it did nothing to protect our chickens from multiple raccoon attacks, but had no problem harassing our children walking by!

He's beautiful!! Someday I want a yard FULL of different chicken breeds. LOVELY!!
