Nature, Surviving, Adapting and Thriving!!

Hey everyone, I think it is fair to say that this was arguably one of the most interesting days of my life and if you grab a sneaky glance at the pics below you will quickly see why.

We do bee removals, we collect and rescue bees everywhere from boreholes, to rooves, to drains, couches, walls boxes, tree's and more. This particular swarm I saved from an electrical box around 6 weeks ago.

We used our old faithful super sucker to remove these bees and then placed them in a hive. I put around 5 of their larger combs from the electrical box into the brooder frames in their new hive and gave them back to the bees to carry on as they were, however I made a mistake...

Brooder boxes have ten frames and I only put 5 back, Problem?? Not for nature !!

I made a video also on this particular swarm to give you a better, real life feeling of it all very interesting indeed, grab a sneaky peek here.. https://steemit.com/nationalgeographic/@craigcryptoking/deep-inside-a-bee-hive

To the bottom right on many of these pics you will see elastic bands? I use those to take feral combs from their 'wild hives' and install into the frames in the new hive thus helping the bees re-adjust to their new home with ease and as not to set them back more than necessary!

These bees started building their combs from the roof of this hive and carried on regardless. This is great for them, just not so good for us as we are not able to harvest honey off these combs.

What we will ultimately need to do in time, is remove these combs from the roof and re-install them into frames and put them back in the brooder. The problem with this is it may set the bees back a few weeks again, but we do need to get it done as we are in the honey flow season now!!

If you look to the right of the picture are super frames consisting of wax foundations. These are man made from bees wax. We put these in the super frames for the bees to build their combs on and store nectar which matures to become honey once the bees have dried it out. We refer to this as ripening process and are then able to harvest ripe/mature honey a few weeks later.

The foundations also make that we are able to re-use the honey combs saving time and shortening harvest times as it makes for less work for the bees, now not having to make a full wax comb again, but merely fill up with nectar again and so the process repeats itself!
