DIY CHICKEN COOP - Our New Chicken Coop - This Will Be HANDY!

We have been needing this new chicken coop for quite some time now, but I have been putting it off & putting it off for a year or so..until now. I finally was able to start & finish this simple chicken coop, that we built inside our existing chicken run. I built this chicken coop in our chicken run, bc that is where our egg laying chickens roost at night, & this would train the new chickens to roost in the same area as the egg layers. What we were do is when we got new batch of chicks, & they were at that juvenile stage, you know when they are too big to remain in the chick brooder, & too small to let outside all day & night with your full grown chicken,. See we would place the juvenile chickens in our daughter's bantam coop. And this would create issues, bc they would start to pick on her chickens & ducks, & they would eat all the bantam's chicken feed, & then when the juvenile chickens were big enough to actually go outside, they would go to roost in the bantam coop, instead of the big chicken coop. So we would spend every night trying to find all of the juvenile chickens, & chasing them & catching them, so we would be able to put them in the big chicken coop with the free range egg layers. And this would go on for several weeks, which was very aggravating & time consuming..especially if were to rain or storm. So with this new chicken coop being built inside the big chicken run, they will instinctively go to roost where they are suppose to roost at night & we should not have to worry about trying to find them to try & put them up at night here on the homestead.

We also are going to use this new chicken coop as a breeding area for our chickens. We have several heritage breed roosters & we can separate them by breed & place the matching hens & rooster in the new chicken coop & allow them to breed, & we can gather all the eggs & incubate them, which will allow us to hatch our own true heritage breed chickens right here on our farm. Making us way more sustainable!

We can also use the new chicken coop to separate any of our chickens for any reason. Say if we had an injured chicken or had a rooster that was getting picked on, or if we had sold some chickens & needed to separate them....the coop is going to be very adaptable & very versatile, meaning it can be use for so many things other than just a normal chicken coop on the farm. We will get so much use out of the coop here on our family farm & homestead.

You always have a way of sharing that makes things seems simple to do, love it!!!

Chicken coop inside another bigger one!! amazing idea

I'm always so excited to see how other people build their coops. There are so many ways to do it and I just love seeing the different ideas. Good job.

Great idea. Thanks for sharing the video step by step to show how you built it. Hope your chickens like it. Cute pot belly pigs. Didn't look like they were interested in helping with your project though. Let us know how the transition worked out.

Thank for sharing !
