Anything worth having takes time and trial and errors. Mark your gardens with what is growing in each. If you plant a root crop there the next year plant a above grown plant. Crop rotation is as important in gardening as it is in farming.

We definitely keep track of which crop is planted where. Not sure if we'll be able to go a full three years before replanting in the same spot, but hopefully by adding mycorrhizal fungi and adequate nutrients we'll be able to get by.

Since you didn't live there it would be hard for you to know. As with everything a person does you can only do what you can do.
