Tea for the Tillerman

in #homesteading6 years ago

This year we decided to give our backs a break and purchased a garden tiller. We ordered from Amazon and got a Sunjoe! More about this later.

Our first task was to till the garden that will be used for Potato's, Onions, Cucumbers, Beets, Carrots, and Tomato's. We tilled both ways to ensure a thorough job as we had previously only tilled our gardens by hand. This was really easy to do with the tiller, why hadn't we done this a long time ago?

With the garden tilled, we set up the tomato tower and moved on to the garden behind the garage that will be planted with corn on one half, and beans on the other!

Because this went so quickly using the tiller, we extended the garden behind the chicken coup to about twice its previous length.

Here are all three after we finished. This only took about 2 hours in total using the tiller and would have taken day's for us doing it by hand.

The tiller we purchased is a Sunjoe TJ603E electric tiller. It has a 12amp motor, operates at 340 rpm, and will till a path 16 inches wide and 8 inches deep faster than you can walk to the garage to get a shovel!
It's wheels come with a three position adjustment to determine the depth you will till. The handles fold for easy storage and are at the perfect height. It also has 6 angled, steel tines to that held up to a lot of rocks and clay soil.

It comes with a two year warranty.

So, if you have been thinking about getting a tiller don't wait. This little one saved the day and two backs!

hello friend how are you, I miss Candy she is very active they really saved a lot of time with this little machine you leave everything ready for planting, it's great how you take care of your farm and harvest your own vegetables, give greetings to your wife
I see Candy in the video as always helping

Thanks, you know Candy is our little helper🙂

I really like your idea to build an organic healthy garden. If I might suggest you plant Pamelo trees around the plants you will develop, because the pamelo tree has excellent fruits for health especially to prevent heart disease

I don't believe they would make it here. We don't see orange, lemon, or grapefruit being very successful in this part of the globe ☹️

Wow! The gardens look fantastic. One of the most exciting times of the year...ready to plant!

We have managed to get quite a bit planted so far. It's raining today so we'll take a day off!

Saved a day n two backs :) Wow!. It will save you loads of time and energy, so that you can pick up your axe.

Rain day today = Axe day!!!!!

I enjoy seeing how Candy helps them in the work of the farm is very beautiful.
This cultivator if I help a lot in the work, I get to cultivate sometimes and it is not easy to do it with my hands, in that time we did it with our hands, the work is strong. Greetings to @anise

As mentioned we have always done it hand, so this tool is a real back saver!

Friend, how are you? I like sowing as you have already seen I would like to do something a little bigger like this, for now I only do it with plants and some small seeds like aji, paprika or cilantro too, Candy is very beautiful

I believe aji is what we call garlic? We always do garlic and cilantro. We have not done paprika, but we do a variety of peppers!

Finally decided to take a break, and so enjoy the company of his wife and candy. I congratulate him because I know what agricultural work is, although the exercise is good to keep us active and enjoy what our lands produce and the sweat of our front greetings, everyone, @brimax

It sure does keep us active....and sore!

There is nothing better than harvesting our own food, it is an excellent gratification to enjoy the rubbish of our work @brimax

The best thing about growing your own food is you know where it came from and that it hasn't been sprayed with chemicals.

Looks like you will be spending a lot more time canning this summer and fall with the extended garden. Tilling with a shovel is definitely hard on the back. We had to go that route one year when our tiller broke and we weren't able to get it fixed in time for spring planting.

In hindsight we sure wish we had invested in a tiller ages ago. I would be willing to bet that it has been easier for us going from shovels to a tiller than it was for you guy's going from a tiller to shovels!
