Yesterday morning was absolutely beautiful here in Kentucky. The sun was shining and it was over 50 degrees. When I woke up this morning is was 12 degrees and snowing.

The animals you could tell were even a little annoyed with this sudden turn in weather. The cows were frustrated with me because I was not unrolling the hay bales fast enough.

The goats were well…goaty?.. they are always kind of odd.

The great King Solomon says in Ecclesiastes 3 that “There is a season for everything”, well this farmer is ready for the winter season to be over.

Do not get me wrong there is an elegant beauty to winter time, but now that it is February the promise of spring is just around the corner and spring time is my favorite time here on the farm. Spring is when we start having baby goats and calves. Oh how I cannot wait for the nice spring sunshine, the grass turning green, and new life being born here.

But for now at below freezing there is no mud to deal with, so that is a good thing right? Hope you all stay warm and have a wonderful day.

why the cow has a tag in her ears??

We have over 300 head of cattle on the farm. Ear tags are the best way to know who is who and for record keeping. Good question.

Another great post! We are experiencing the same weather patterns here in Ut. Love your goats! We have 8 dwarf nigerians.

We’ve got the exact same weather so I can relate. Love the picture and comment about the goats! That made me laugh :)

Thank you! The goats are always entertaining.

I was hoping busting ice days where over.

its a big farm , you should hire people to help do the job. God bless and Hi to your lovely kids and beautiful wifey :)

I have three of the best hired hands;). We r not big enough yet for outside help. Maybe one day. Thank you for your kind comment

I love seeing goats but i hate their smell haha nice you have a huge farm..

I'm with you... this 'whiplash weather' is downright tough to deal with. A stretch of consistent conditions would be welcome.

Yes it would be awesome

oh, i love the little curls on the foreheads of your cattle! so, so precious <3

I can relate! With February I start getting antsy for Spring! LOVE the winter coats on your goats!!! BTW, do you feed your goats copper? Ive heard it does them well but I haven't tried it yet. We feed ours kelp and salt but I don't know if they get enough copper from that..

We feed out goat copper. Every spring they get a bolus of copper along with their worming medicine. Goats need copper it helps with fertility. Also prevents their hair getting really wirey and the fish tail look to their tails. There are other reasons they need it as well. Such as helping with the development central nervous system in younger goats. Sorry long story short yes goats need copper and offering it freely is loose minerals is a great option. We boils because we had sheep with our goats and they cannot have copper.

Yeah that makes sense. Ours get some copper with their salt and kelp but i think I'm going to start giving them more copper.

I feed them my cattle mineral, it does have some copper in it.

I see in the comments you have 300 head of cattle. How many acres are your farming?

We have 446 acres. We have about 100 mama cows and then we run feeder cattle as well

How very cool! That seems like more than a homestead. :-)
