Our oldest rooster's injured foot
I spotted Lotto, our oldest rooster, limping around the house the other day, and it didn't seem too bad at the time. He favored a leg, but otherwise was crowing and acting like his normal self.
Yesterday, he seemed to be walking very slow, and when we got him cornered to catch, he didnt really put up a fight. Come to find out, he foot looks pretty bad:
From what we can tell, it looks like his pad was torn, and is not infected. His wound was soaked with epsom salt and water to help get off much of the gunk caked on, and we are awaiting instruction from my father in law, who is a farm animal and cattle veterinarian. We have him in a cage and are going to baby him for a few days. Lets hope.for a speedy recovery!
ouch. The hardest part is waiting. On the upside, chickens are pretty hardy. Goodluck. Be well.
