Part#2 UPDATE ON HOW TO FORCE BLOOM AMARYLLIS PLANT

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

Picture update on my amaryllis... Force bloom using water method.
First picture is when it started. Second picture after one week. Third picture after two weeks. If you noticed, on the third picture, I put a rolled piece of paper to give space between the bulb and the opening of the glass for air flow.

How to make your amaryllis bloom...

  1. Dig up a few mature amaryllis bulbs.
  2. Cut off all the leaves.
  3. Cut off some of the roots leaving about 2" - 2 1/2".
  4. Wash the bulb to remove the dirt.
  5. Dry it well, to remove any moisture.
  6. Put the bulbs in a cool dry place, to AIR DRY, like in a corner in your kitchen counter, for about one week. One week later, go to step #7.
  7. Put water in a glass, not quite too full.( use a clear container so it will be easy to see the roots).
Put the amaryllis bulb in the glass with water. Make sure only the roots touches the water.
  8. Check water level regularly. Add water if needed. Or change water if needed.
  9. The amaryllis bulb will start sprouting, and most of the time, when it sprouts, it is the bud that will sprout first before the leaves. Put the glass with bulb close to a window.
  10. After the amaryllis finished blooming, the bulb can be planted back in a flower pot or in the garden.
