Bug zapper light review : after one week of use 👍

in #homesteading6 years ago (edited)

Well last week I bought a bug zapper light from AIH(Alaska Industrial Hardware) for $15. We needed something to help in the coop.

I put it in the heat light shield because that’s what we had and also it should reflect some light and attract more.

Specs:
•Replaces a 65 w bulb
•Has 40,000 hours of life
•9w LED Warm Light
•It’s and E26 standard base
•Estimated yearly energy cost: $1.31
•Life span if used for three hours a Day is 10 years
•Lumens is 920 - I don’t know if that includes the bug zapper light
•It supposedly drawn in flying bugs within a 855 square foot area.
•The zapping grid is 2000 volts

So the instructions say...
•Cut the power to the socket you want to use
•Remove old bulb
•Them install the bug zapper light

Now this bulb has two settings, bug zapper and bug zapper with LED light.

•So the first setting is just the bug zapper and LED, all you do is restore the power to the light.

•The second setting is for the bug zapper. You have to turn the light on, off and back on within a second.

So after fumbling with the light for a few, I realized the light/zapper has to have a very tight fit.

We got it working and we left it and came back about a week later. This is what we got...

For small scale this is great! It got at least 50 small flies. After removing it from the socket, I used the small brush provided to clean it.
Cleaning it wasn’t to hard, it took maybe a minute to clean. Then reinstalled and light/zapper and did the steps for zapper and LED.

I will be buying this again.
