The Homesteading Revolution
I have been watching a lot of videos on YouTube lately(as usual), and one thing that has drawn my attention is the prevalence of videos that have to do with homesteading: videos on growing vegetables, raising chickens, managing greenhouses, etc. All that kind of stuff is really cool, because I believe in the future our government, particularly in America, is going to let us down big time. When you look at how EVIL our government has become, it is only logical that it will eventually collapse under the weight of it’s over-indulgent opulence, like fabled Rome. Of course I have to point out(i wish I didn’t) that our constitution is still amazingly bad ass, nothing better than our constitution, with all the basic human rights that it grants us, is available anywhere in the known Universe. Therefore boys and girls, it’s time to hunker down and ride it out here in America, because as crappy as our government gets, it only becomes more and more obvious how amazing our constitution is, and so we need to be ready to ride out the storm here in America, where those wonderful hemp documents the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are located.
Now, back to those hempsteading, oops, I mean homesteading videos. You can learn the basics of homesteading through YouTube, but what has really got me excited are all the new ideas that are being shared. Many of these so-called new ideas are of course actually old ways of living that we have forgotten in modern times. For example, did you know that you can heat your greenhouse in the winter with a pile of leaves? I’m not talking about burning them; that would be highly inefficient. ROTTING leaves put out A LOT of heat, and slowly, like over the whole winter.
The compost pile has other uses as well. This Swedish farmer is demonstrating the use of a compost pile to heat his chicken coop in the winter. What he is beginning to notice, however, is how much the chickens LOVE the compost pile. I have learned through other videos that you can feed your chickens EXCLUSIVELY with the compost pile, so you don’t even have to buy chicken feed! It actually produces the perfect balance of food for the chickens which includes the organic bits of material, bugs, and beneficial bacteria. I am so sick of seeing the eggs at the store whose companies so proudly boast an all vegetarian diet for their chicks, thinking they are helping the poor animals who ARE NOT vegetarians! They eat bugs people, c’mon.
If you are more of a technical thinking person who likes machines and cool inventions, let me share with you a couple of great thinkers on the front of homestead machines. When it comes to homesteading, I don’t believe that you have to give up any modern conveniences that you enjoy. That means many of us will want devices to produce fuel, electrical power, kinetic power, and heat(artificially). If you have a river or stream on your property you can try this guy’s method of turning a washing machine in to what looks like quite a nice electric generator.
This next guy is SO cool. Mr. Teslonian (LOVE the name) has made wood stoves that are ridiculously efficient. They produce MUCH more heat, waste much less heat, and you can load wood into them that is not to be burnt, but converted into several types of (synthetic?) petroleum including something he calls syn gas(which runs a generator directly!), gasoline, and diesel fuel. I believe the process is called gasification. His device seems to be quite simple 19th century(or earlier?) technology that anyone could build themselves. Although, as we know, sometimes obvious solutions are right in front of our noses and we still don’t notice them. Youtube does not provide an embed code for this video(hurry up and fix yo sh** DTUBE!!) so here is a link.
Living like these folks are living is the wave of the future. The false corporate reality that we are being sold in the mainstream media is not the way of a happy, healthy, and harmonious life that we all really want deep down. We may need to get down and dirty before we can lift ourselves up and out of the muck. And when that time comes, we will be ready with the Airship Idea.
Great post @airshipidea! Keep thinking of new ways to live! I believe in the homestead revolution completely, and am so glad I dove in. Thank you for your ideas.
You're welcome!! I would love to hear about your homestead sometime. Good luck with it and much Love!!
