Dear readers, so nice to have you today at my corner. I love to share this piece on mushroom with you. You will love being here.
Mushrooms are sometimes added on hamburgers and pizza. Many love to have them in their soup or even eat it like that, I love mushrooms. Back in the days when my grand father was alive, you will hardly visit him in the village without getting a gift of mushroom from his farm. It was his custom.

WHAT IS MUSHROOM?
Mush rooms are edible /non edible fungi which grows and thrive by extracting nutrient from dead plants and animals that are decayed.
There are different kinds of mushrooms, some edible and some non edible. There are several thousand of species of mushrooms but not all are poisonous, only about 250 of them are poisonous.'However many out of desperation or love of mushrooms may want to pick any type for consumption. There are quit a number of species of mushrooms, how can you determine the one that is toxic and harmful from the one that is edible and harmless?

To those who would take picking mushrooms as inconsequential, you need not to guess that the one you are attempting to pick is the edible one. Care should should be taken when bending low to pick a mushrooms. I love mushrooms but i do not know the edible one. Someone told me that in his culture, if you want to know the edible mushroom, pick anyone you see and give it to a chicken. If it eats it, then thats the edible one. While we cannot rely on that we need to know that the non edible ones are poisonous.

According to Tradd Cotter, there are “toxic-look alikes” in mushroom. This means that there are some that are poisonous but looks like the ones that are edible and non-poisonous, so care should be taken when selecting edible mushrooms. Otherwise, it could have effect on the liver or even lead to death.
Perhaps you are eager to know the ones that are non edible and the edible mushrooms. Lets see just a few.

NON EDIBLE

I)Destroying angels------ That the name. They belong to family called genus amanita. They have beautiful white caps, stalk and gills.

2)Death caps---------This is the deadliest. They belong to the specie, amanita phalloides. They are very toxic. It poses a serious threat on human health because its toxins are well concentrated on its tissue. So mushroom lovers, do not pick this for food

EDIBLE MUSHROOMS

  1. Oyster mushroom----They grow on dying hard woods

    source
  2. Maitake mushrooms ------They grow on hard woods too but at the base. They should be harvested or picked for eating while young. This is because as the grow, they become too tough to eat.
