RE: Off-Grid: The Winter Months - Our First 8 Months of Off-Grid Living part 2

in #homesteadersonline6 years ago

Sounds like our winter! Haha, but in BC it is a little warmer. This winter was a kick in the ass really, we were so unprepared. I am just itching for the snow to melt and to see the earth again, but the skies are blue to it should not be too long.
We hardly get anything from the solar panels in the winter, and our batteries suck so we run the generator a lot more then you do haha. Now that there is sun though, we might be able to start relying on solar power more!

We're pretty used to the cold snaps, but BC doesn't normally see them. Seven years ago or something I was in BC for the month - record rain fall, then snow fall, the plane was delayed twice because there were no plow trucks or any way to clear the runway :) A couple weeks ago i noticed the panels out of the winter slump and headed back to summer time giving. Are your panels shaded at all when the sun slumps in the winter ? I had to trim some taller trees when the sun first started getting lower before winter.
