Leaving coin based systems out of it and finding people who have things you need and offering what you have in return.
Stepping out of the system and going people to people.
What do you have to offer?
What do you need?
Maybe $2 an hour is the right pay because when you make money you have to pay some of it to the government. Bartering leaves the government out of the whole equation.
