Guineas vs Rattle Snake

Guinea Fowl will commonly kill a small snake, but this one is a little too big for a few birds to kill. We had to help them out with a hand gun loaded with snake shot. However, they were real good warning us that a rattlesnake was in the yard.

That's a great surprise for the morning!

On another note, why did you choose Guineas on the homestead? I don't know much about them.

They are kind of annoying at times, but they are the best thing for controlling ticks.

Thank goodness the Quinea hens were on patrol. That is pretty cool that they are like guardians of the yard for you.

That’s pretty scary! Not a fan of snakes near my girls. Good shot! 🐓🐓

Never a dull moment around there! Ishy!

Are you going to cut open the rattle to see what is inside?

No, but they are empty inside.

I'd say that was a pretty large snake. Guineas are good for so many things around the homestead. What do you use for snake shot? Around here people use very long machetes.

I sometimes use a shovel, but i did not to get to close.

Wow, that's a good sized rattler!
Im an advocate of capturing and relocating most snakes, but I understand why you didn't with this one. ;) That would be tricky... to say the least.

They are good about letting you know about a snake or killing the snake for you. I like that they will keep the ticks on your property down also.

That rattlesnake was exactly what we were hoping to NOT see while visiting the homestead year before last. Too many little children.

Glad to see the Guineas are good at notifying the masters to lock and load.

@ironshield

I didn't know that about guineas and snakes. That photo is pretty impressive, seeing the size of the snake compared to the guineas! 😱
