RE: Homegrown Children, Homeschooling Network and Summerfest on Bornholm, Denmark

in #homeschooling6 years ago

This is quite interesting, I can see it working well in the younger age children, but how does it work (or does it stop) as the children grow and the subjects become more and more specialised, possibly beyond the ability of the network to provide adequate expert information?

I have met a couple of families homeschooling older children. Usually the children are very good at searching for the information they wish for and the parents to help them find it. I met a 19 year old unschooled boy who was impressively knowledgeable, he just never stopped looking for information, online, at museums, searching for skilled people and so on. The parents doesn't have to be alone in knowing everything.
I have also met more than one family who has send their children to school for the last schoolyear, especially to attain the final exams / diplomas, and it seemed they had no problem following the classes.
