How Does She Do It? - Homeschooling 4 Children With 1 On The Way While Keeping Up With My Steemit Blog ~

Lately I’ve been asked quite a bit by various Steemicans,
How do you have time to homeschool 4 children while pregnant and still keep up with your Steemit blog? What’s your secret?

Schedule Breakdown
The above schedule is just a guideline I try to use to help me fit in my daily duties. It changes often but for the most part this is how our day tends to flow.
Wake Up Time - One of the great things about homeschooling is that we set our own times. We don’t have to go along with what the public schools are doing. One of the ways I stay sane is by getting enough rest. While my kids are young we will continue to sleep in until 9 AM. I am the Superintendent, Principal and Vice Principal of our school, I get to make the rules! 😁 Once they are older we will begin waking up earlier to prepare them for the workplace.
Morning Devotion - As a Christian family this part of our day is extremely important. School for us is not just about book work but also teaching our children about the Lord and how to live. They have grown such a love towards God by learning about Him and all His goodness. We do prayer, memory verses, have small discussions and then end with worship songs before we get into our book work assignments. This is a big part in shaping our children to be followers of Christ and the best way to start our day!
Class Sessions - One thing that helps my days run smoother is the fact that I can teach multiple ages and grades at the same time. I have witnessed my children learning from one another and helping one another with their assignments. With the curriculum we use (Christian Light Education) I am able to teach my 1st and 2nd grader at the same time. The majority of their subjects are the same but just on a different level. They both get through their assignments pretty fast because they are not competing with a whole classroom for my one on one attention.
While I am teaching those two, my 5 and 1 year old have playtime together. Sometimes I have learning songs playing for them to sing and dance to. They also do puzzles and listen to our leap frog read aloud books. My 5 year old is currently in preschool and is preparing to enter Kindergarten this Fall. As he is going over his alphabets and numbers, my 1 year old repeats after him and likes to learn along.
Naptime - This is the time where I can get a lot of my house chores done and even have some mommy time too. My 1 year old always takes a nap at this time but for the others it just depends. I can still get my chores done if they are occupied with their own activities but sometimes they are too rowdy and I do make them take a nap as well. During this time I also take advantage of extra rest if needed and to catch up here on Steemit. Either way these two hours are definitely an important part of my day.
Snack/Creative Play - Of course when the kids wake up from nap they are hungry. I usually let them have another snack (preferably fruit) to hold them over until I am finished cooking dinner. During my cooking time the kids can play outside in the front or backyard or they can have free time in their rooms. They do get to watch the television during this time but we try to cut back on how much they watch.
Family Time - Although I am with my children all day long I still like to set aside this time before they go to bed to spend some quality family time. Their dad is home from work and it is important to us that we do something together with our kids. It could be watching a family movie, building something together, going for a walk outside, story time etc.
Kids Bedtime - Our kids are in bed every night by 9:00 PM. Another tip that keeps me sane and helps our home stay in order is teaching the kids to pick up their rooms every night before going to bed. They have 30 minutes to brush their teeth, put on their pjs and pick up their room. This also helps to keep our day running smoothly and for them not have to spend so much time during the day cleaning up. They have more time to play and do activities because their room is already tidied up.
Quality Spouse Time - As a married couple this is another important part of our day/evening. As you can see we don’t have a lot of time to be together without the kids during the week. We sneak some time in here and there but by the time he gets home from work I’m busy with dinner (unless we have leftovers or take out). The main time we have during the week is this time after we put the kids to bed. Notice I have question marks on the time because it just depends. I know I should get to bed at a decent time but having that alone quality time with no noises, cries, complaints, arguing over toys, wining or screaming is just magical. This is also the time where my husband and I can do some of our separate hobbies that we’ve been wanting to get to. Like for me crocheting and Steemit and for him gaming and computer stuff. We usually discuss and agree about what we’re going to do so we are on one page.
Having An Outlet
I recommend this to all homeschooling parents...find an outlet. Being home 24/7 to parent, homeschool and tend to the house can be very draining mentally, physically and emotionally. I had to find ways to take a load off and spend time doing the things I love. I need to be able to “miss” my kids from time to time. When I’m away from them for a period of time it’s refreshing because I start to miss them and can’t wait to get home to see them. Every parent needs a break no matter how super you are.
I started off doing some part-time modeling for small family ads and then did a few bridal runway shows. It was a lot of fun for me to get away and get dressed up. I didn’t consider them as jobs because I enjoyed doing them so much. As I started having more children it became challenging to find the time to audition. Also it seemed when my agent found jobs for me I was always pregnant at that time. As of now I do not model any more although I am still listed on the modeling site. Maybe when the kids are older I will get back to it.
Crocheting has become my main outlet. I like to sneak away by myself and just craft away in peace. It is a lot easier when my husband is home so he can keep the kids out of my zone lol. Most of the time I crochet when I’m in the living room relaxing with the whole family though. My second outlet has become blogging here on Steemit. I love this plattform and keeping up with my friends as well as meeting new ones. I love sharing who I am and my family with the Steemit world. I didn’t realize I would love blogging so much!
Group Projects/Experiments
One thing I have learned about my kids is that they are hands on explorers. If I sat them down at a table to do book work all the time they would probably zone out from boredom. We want them to love all aspects of school so we change things up quite often. We do group projects and experiments to excite their interests and keep them curious. It’s fun when we break away from the curriculum books to learn by using our hands and senses. It also gives all of the kids a chance to work together and put on their thinking caps. It’s refreshing for me to do something that’s fun and educational with them.
Field Trips
Getting out and away from the house is another great way to keep everyone motivated. Although we don’t do a lot of traveling I try to find free or affordable places where we can go and explore. Our children are so curious and asks so many questions while we are out and they learn so much. You can never go wrong with fun learning! Education can come in many forms, we had to learn which forms are best for our kids and run with it!
I hope you enjoyed reading about how my days normally look. Hopefully I have mentioned something that will help another parent stay sane and/or a homeschooling family to enjoy their time together! Thank you for reading~❤️

What an inspiration! Love your schedule and big thumbs up on homeschooling your children. No easy task for sure but I know you are raising fine young people!
Thank you so much!! It is definitely not an easy task but very doable! I really appreciate your encouragement~ 😊
Wow! You really are a real life superwoman!
You deserve those few outlets after all that work. It's obvious how family orientated you are and you should be proud of yourself, which I'm sure you are.
BTW! We are all glad that one of these outlets is steemit, this place wouldn't be the same without you.
Bless!
Thank you so much!! Your words mean a lot and I appreciate your sweet compliments~ ☺️😊
Wow! You are a super mommy. My hats off to you mam. I am speechless, i am a mommy too and currently expecting for our second one. You inspired me a lot today. I plan to leave steemit after my second delivery but reading this amazing post enchanted me a lot. I am so proud of you as a mother and a woman. I wish you more success and a good health.
You have got a really beautiful family. Bless all of you hearts. Xxx
I will always remember this. This will serve as my drive. Thank you for inspiring many woman.
Wow Thank you so very much!! I truly appreciate your kind remarks! ☺️ I am so glad and humbled to hear that my post has inspired you. I love to share how I multi-task and “survive” through the day while raising a family and still having some fun personal time.
Congratulations on your second baby!! When are you due? I’m due June 13th but I feel she might come early, I’m getting huge lol!
I wish you all the best and I hope that if you decide to stick around and keep your blog going that you will find even more ways to manage your time~ 💜
I plan on doing a future post with more detail on making time for Steemit for busy parents ;)
Thank you so much!
Wow! You and the kids wake up at 9 am? I wish my kids woke up around that time. mine wake up already between 6 and 7 am! I don't think I am able to do homeschooling. I don't even have enough time to clean and cook! I noticed that homeschooling is popular in the US. Here in Holland it is not popular at all. It is also not allowed, all kids have to go to school. If homeschooling would be popular here, I think families would have financial problems since most parents( husband and wife) have a job, otherwise they can't pay the bills and high tax. You really need to have a very good financial situation here in Europe in order to do homeschooling. The things I like about kids going to school is that they get to know other different kids over the world and having friends. What I don't like about my kids going to school is the bad words they sometimes learn from each other and the bullying. (Not that my kids are bullied). I wonder how many arms and legs you have because I wouldn't be able to do homeschooling+ cleaning+cooking + blogging with even only having 3 kids less than you :-D.
Haa! Well a lot of times they wake up between 8 and 9 but they stay in their beds or room and talk until we get started with the day at 9. They know I’m not getting up any earlier lol! 😂 Wow your kiddos wake up pretty early. Are you a morning person?
Yes homeschooling is more popular here and more and more families are turning to it. The public school education is not great here and I have seen it get worse as the years go by. Those are some of the reasons we chose this route. I don’t want my kids having a negative foundation and dealing with all the peer pressure, negative influences, bullying and being held back on their education. I say that because we have so much fighting and violence here in the schools (starting in elementary) that the teachers spend so much time disciplining students that they don’t get to teach as they would like. So those kids who want to learn and move forward have to wait on other students that don’t want to learn and that are not trying to move forward. I want my kids to be able to move along as they are ready.
I also understand about you liking your children to meet different people and have friends. The good thing about homeschooling here is there are so many homeschool groups now available where we can have meetups, play dates and field trips with other families. We can also get them involved in community sports and activities where they get to meet other kids as well. So there are options that will get the kids out and involved with other people ;D
Lol!!! Sometimes I just have to stop, close my eyes and take a deep breath. It gets very challenging at times but what helps is I don’t think about all I have to do, I just do it. I guess I’m so used to being multi-tasked and I grew up with a mother that did Everything! She was a stay at home mom as well with 3 children. She did everything I currently do minus the homeschooling. She also took care of the yard, and garden, and of course the sewing, quilting etc. I also like to be challenged so I think that’s another reason why I hold up like I do. I’m not sure how I’m gonna hold up when baby #5 arrives! 😳😬😄 I might be writing a different type of post then...like an S.O.S. post LOL!
I am indeed more a morning person :-). Yes, I see a lot on tv, news about American schools, kids with guns killing other kids.... Here they are very strict and I don't think you can even own a gun in holland. In my area the schools are not that amazing in teaching, but the kids enjoy it at school. I do teach my kids extra at home if I know they aren't good in a certain subject and of course I teach them about religion before going to bed because they don't teach that at school. I wish you good luck with baby # 5! I stay with 2 hehehe!
Well that works out really well since you are already a morning person :D. Yes it’s so sad, these kids are starting out young committing violent acts. That’s great that you teach your kids at home where more is needed. Lol...I remember how much quieter around here it was with only 2!!! 😂 I’ll never witness those days again Haa!
I love it! I especially love that y'all get up at 9. That's been our wake-up time too, but sometimes people look at me a bit funny, so I've been keeping it to myself. But really, what business is it of theirs? Especially as a mama of little ones, we need our sleep to function at our best. Great job Mama!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you taking the time to read! Those are exactly my thoughts, it’s none of their business. That’s the joy we have in being able to run our own households...we make the rules not anyone else. No one else is taking care of your family or home so they should have no say so. We have to do what is best for our families and not try to do what the average person is doing. What law says we have to get up by 7 or 8? We definitely need our rest raising little ones and I’m not ashamed for sleeping in until 9, I’m quite proud that I get to LOL! 😂 We’re privileged people!!! 😄😉😘
Wow! What a beautiful life experience! I have been pleasantly impressed with the beauty and love that you print in everything you do. It is not easy, more with love and dedication, everything is possible. And what I like most, you start the day with GOD and involve your children in them, the best legacy you can give them. A big hug, I love reading you. Greetings and my blessings touch your home.
Awww thank you so very much!! You are so sweet and it means a lot to me that you enjoy reading my blog and about my family life. I couldn’t agree more, giving them a foundation that starts with God is the best thing we could ever do for them :)
Many blessings to you and yours as well~ 😊💕
Hats off to you :)
You are indeed doing great.
Hope everything goes well with the new life coming to the world.
Take care of you & the babies :)
Thank you for that :) My life is about to get even busier but I’m excited for the ride :D
You take care too, I hope you’re doing better~
My schedule is very similar to yours. I periodically evaluate if there is some way I can free up more time to squeeze in personal projects, but there just doesn't seem to be. I squeeze in what I can. That is the reality of little ones. These years are meant for parenting as the primary objective.
Oh cool! Yes that is very true about having little ones. We just have to get things done as we can. I don’t get to do a lot of projects until the weekend. I have also learned not to get so focused on the “house” work and miss spending quality time with my growing children. We only have them with us for so long and then they’re all grown up.
Thanks for stopping by :)
You're very time oriented! I so admire how you have done this with four children and another one coming!
I usually set my schedule on what to do and when to do it but at times I just can't follow and allocate the bests time to finish all of it.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful family! :)
Thank you!!! ☺️ I don’t always stay on schedule but it does help to give me something to shoot for. It is very hard trying to fit everything in but I have learned to give myself grace and know that I’m doing the best that I can ;)
Thank you for reading and for your feedback :)
