Application to Homeschool Lesson on Attentiveness: The Minions Did a "Great" Job!

Hey, Minions! What's up with you?!

I mean, literally. You seem to have gotten my children's full attention. The way you speak is incomprehensible, but they listen to you. They even laugh their hearts out with a mere gesture of your hands!

Well, in all honestly, you seem to be cute. But maybe because have not watched any of your full movies so I cannot really appreciate you fully. Ohhh, am I really that old?! I would like to say, NOT - only pre-occupied with lots of more important bits in life. Haist.

Character Education

Or maybe they are applying what we learned in one of our homeschool lessons? Yesterday we discussed about ATTENTIVENESS.

Each quarter, we are required to tackle 2 characteristics which we would like to improve in our family. Since we have issues with Kuya's focus (he easily gets distracted), so this topic is just befitting.

Our reference book, Achieving True Success: How To Build Character As A Family, associates each Character on the book to an animal.

For this lesson, it relates the quality of the white-tailed deer and highlights on it's attentiveness.

Character First Education website also shared on their page brief video clips to further discuss the topic like a short story on how a white tailed deer escaped from danger of being devoured by a mountain lion thanks to its attentiveness. They also have a very nice poem which summarizes the characteristic and what we need to do to develop it.

Geez, pardon my bad handwriting. The poem was written in haste, as I listened to it while at work. I asked my son to further memorize the poem (we started last night)but he forgot his copy when he went to their nanny today. I had to send him another copy to make sure he worked on his task at hand.

The poem is very catchy, rhymes well and is easy to remember. When I fetched them from their nanny's house after work, he was excited to recite the poem complete with hand gestures!

Whenever I can, I make a short PPT presentation of our homeschool lessons. My son is a visual learner, which means that he learns more when he watches clips or sees it on the screen. I feed the presentation on our TV and make him read the important notes loudly - adds up as a reading exercise, then asks him to explain what he read to test his comprehension.

I'd appreciate tips from you my fellow homeschool parents, steemiteducation educators and dear readers on how I can further improve my approach to teaching my son.

Despicable Me

This morning, so that hubby and I could go about our busy morning - preparing breakfast, getting ready for work and preparing kids' stuff to bring to their nanny's house- we let the kids watch TV and we came across Despicable Me 3 trailers and various minion clips. The kids were immediately immersed on the video.

I even wondered at one point, what happened to the children why the house suddenly fell silent.

They were busy watching the minions!
