Homemade electrolytes: Easy. Simple. Healthy.

Ugh

The plague has struck.
It is bad this year, ya'll.

But, complaining aside, one of the most important things about recovering from the flu, (or anything else), is HYDRATION.

Most people think Gatorade or Pedialyte for rehydration.
Water alone just does not cut it.
You lose so much more than water through sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, you know, all the fun stuff that comes with the flu.
The problem with those commercial drinks is they contain more than just the nutrients to replenish you body. They also have fun stuff like food coloring, and high fructose corn syrup.

Well, have no fear, you can make a non-toxic version on your own!

Unfortunately I do not have a photo of my drink and we just finished up the pitcher in the fridge. I only use my own photos, so I will post a picture of our honeybees, which is relevant because the recipe uses honey.

Homemade Electrolyte Drink

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp Himalayan pink salt (or other REAL salt, such as celtic sea salt)
  • 3 tablespoons raw honey

Mix well and either serve, or put in the refrigerator for later.

I like to make a whole pitcher full so I can give it to everyone and not keep mixing up batches.

This stuff really works wonders, folks. This is not just for recovering from illness, it is great for working outside in the heat as well. It makes a HUGE difference! So many times I have been outside, working in the hot Georgia sun, sipping water and feeling the heat exhaustion creeping in, (Im from Ohio, I can't handle the heat!), and then I drink a cup of this solution, and BAM! Instantly feeling energized!

Your body can metabolize the electrolytes it needs from natural sources with nothing toxic added!

I hope you have found this useful!! Have a blessed day!

Sounds delicious also! I need to keep a pitcher of this in my fridge. I tend to drink too much water through the day, flushing out my electrolytes and B vitamins.

Thanks!
Its not bad. Slightly weird taste due to the salt, but mostly citrusey... I dont have a hard time getting the kids to drink it, which is the main thing, cause if they wont drink it, what good is it? ;)

Nice! We also make our own electrolyte drink using lemon, filtered water, sea salt and maple syrup- same here! It's the best hydration in the summer and prevents headaches after a long day working in the hot sun... Great post!

Thanks!!
I have heard of using maple syrup as well and I may just have to try it next time I have some on hand!

I am saving this recipe to mix me a batch! I used to make with just lemon juice and raw organic honey! Learn something new today, thank you!

No prob! Its really been a game changer for us! It gets so hot here in Georgia, and we need to hydrate!
