Trying out new meal delivery service - Home Chef
I tried Home Chef, an at home meal delivery service, in hopes it would save me time. I don’t really have the time or motivation to come up with fancy new recipes every night.
Home Chef is a company that provides all the ingredients to make a home cooked meal. Great choice for people who work long hours or students who depend on drive thrus for a hot meal. Recipes are fairly easy to follow and vary between easy med and difficult. Each delivery provides the produce and protein of choice and instructions in a box filled with ice packets to keep it fresh until it arrives at your front door. You have the option of ordering 3-6 meals per week, servings range from 2 to 6 people.
Meal 1 - Pesto Butter Steak
For my first meal I decided to make a pesto butter steak dinner for two people. The meal contained the following
Vegetables: Carrots
Protein: Steak
Side dish: Orzo
Sauce: Pesto
Cals 749g
Carbs 54g
Protein 49g
Fat 39g
Sodium 1261mg
Prep: Set your oven to 400F
Step 1:
Put a pot of water to boil, once ready pour your orzo and cook until ardent, 7-9 mins. Once orzo is cooked, drain the water and put aside.
Step 2:
Wash carrots, peel and cut into 1/4 slices. Then grab a pan with aluminum foil and drizzle olive oil over the carrots. Add salt and pepper and cook in oven for 17 mins.
Step 3:
Season both sides of steaks. Grab a pan and set to med-high, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and place steaks to cook.
While steaks are cooking, grab a med pan, set to med and add half of butter. Once melted toss in your aldente orzo and finish cooking with the butter for one minute. Add salt and pepper. Remove from heat and mix in parmesan cheese.
Step 4:
In a small bowl add remaining half of butter and add in pesto sauce. Mixed together until evenly blended. Tip: If butter has not melted, put into microwave for 5 seconds.
Final step:
Place cooked steak on plate, add pesto sauce, carrots and orzo. Enjoy!
Review:
Overall the dish was a solid 8 out of 10 and easy to make. Total cook time was about 30 mins. The best part for me was the steak covered in pesto sauce. Pesto has an amazing smell and compliments any dish it is added too. I was also very impressed with how fresh the meat and vegetables.
